Purpose Of Getting A Dog?

A dog is man's best friend and it repeatedly tries to please its master, plus a dog possesses certain abilities that are not out there to us humans: –abilities like keen sense of smell, explosive promptness etc. These qualities and abilities give a dog a unique position of power. ( Check out Top Popular Dog Breeds here )

Unfortunately, there is a tendency among us to use such a power of dogs for security or self protection purposes. There is no harm in making use of a dog's service for security tied purposes. But this tendency can back fire when a dog is solely used as a machine to provide security for the master ignoring the dog's own needs. And most of the time when a person gets a dog amidst the sole purpose of tailored protection and security, the needs of the dog goes unfulfilled and the dog is never accepted as a member of the family.

A dog is a social animal and it needs to belong to a group. It needs to play, needs patting, exercising: fulfill a dog's needs you will suffer a favorably dog. Chain it to an isolated place, beat it, you undergo a bad dog.

Also there is expected danger involved in training a dog to be mean with intruders or strangers. A dog, trained in such manner can create a mistake and attack a stranger and cause serious bodily damage which may attract legal hassles.

So get a dog and earn it a portion of your family and your life, play providing it, walk with it, presently way the dog are able to be a wonderful companion of yours. Never treat your dog as security apparatus. Never teach it to be mean with strangers. Otherwise you will have tough-time controlling your dog instead of fun-filled-hours.

So, before choosing the "right" dog companion, check out the Dog Breed Videos first to find the right type of dog for you!

Good Luck

A Tribute To Momo (A Fine Westies Dog Breed)

This post is dedicated especially to our Friend from Indonesia Nick & Carla. Their dog Momo (A Westies dog Breed) past away during the Hari Raya Break, sometime around mid October, 2007.

  • (Kindly note that the images of Westies are not Momo, but were taken from Wikipedia as reference only)

To all dog lovers, especially Nick and Carla, we feel for you and know how much it hurts. Dogs are so much apart of our lives and are like our babies. I am sure most dog lovers will agree that, the hardest & saddest thing about owning a dog is the eventual fact that, dogs like humans, cannot live forever .....

Nick and Carla are genuine dog lovers. they used to have seven dogs, now left five.

    1. Danillo (A Chihuahua Dog Breed) - Daniella' s Father (Deceased)
    2. Momo (Westies Dog Breed) - (Deceased)

Current Dogs belongin to Nick & Carla are:
    1. Zuzu (Bichon Fries Dog Breed)
    2. Cherry (Pug Dog Breed)
    3. Bella (Bassett Hound Dog Breed)
    4. Jessie (Poddle Dog Breed)
    5. Daniella (Chihuahua Dog Breed)

Here's a tribute to Momo the Westies Dog Breed.
West Highland White Terriers, commonly known as Westies, are a breed of dog known for their spirited personality and brilliant white coat. They are friendly, good with older children, and thrive on lots of attention. Westies, like most terriers, have plenty of spirit for a dog their size. This breed is commonly recognised through its use as a mascot for Black & White (a brand of Scotch whisky), and on the packaging of Cesar brand dog food. Moreover, the West Highland White Terrier has appeared frequently in broadcast commercials, three examples being Target fashion outlet, Mondo fruit drinks and Kraft Philadelphia Light Cream Cheese.

  • Appearance
They have bright, deep-set eyes, as dark as possible, with a penetrating gaze. The ears are small, pointed and erect, giving the animal an alert ready-for-anything look.[1]
They typically weigh about 15 to 20 lb (7.5–10 kg) and their average height is 11 in. (28 cm) at the withers. Their tails, typically naturally "carrot-shaped", should never be docked and are held upright. The tail should be between 5-6 inches.
They also have deep chests, muscular limbs, a slightly convex skull, a short and a closely fitted jaw with scissors bite (lower canines locked in front of upper canines, upper incisors locked over lower incisors.) Their teeth generally appear quite large for the size of the dog. Their ears should be held more or less upright, but not pointing straight up; it is essential for any dog to carry themselves properly when showing. Westies have a very strong bone structure for their size.

  • Temperament
The breed, descended from working terriers, has a lot of energy, tenacity, and aggression towards its prey, which was originally the rabbit and other smaller animals, such as squirrels. This history has endowed the Westie with a bold temperament that leads many to call them "big dogs in a little body." They are always alert and consider themselves guard dogs, although their size prevents them from providing any real intimidation. As with any dog, if seriously irritated or provoked they may respond with a growl, though this is rare. If the tail is down and ears are back, keep away. They may be eating or chewing a favourite toy. They are very possessive of their belongings, master and food.
They are great companion dogs and get along with other animals, although care should be taken when introducing them to other domestic pets, such as cats. They also are compatible with children. Since Westies were originally bred as hunting dogs, they need to have room to run and play. They are recommended as apartment dogs. If traveling they make great companions, since they can adjust easily to new situations and people and because of their small size. Westies will appreciate two or three walks each day.
They are very energetic but tire and need to take several naps per day. Like all dogs, the Westie responds better to love and gentleness than to cruelty. As with most terriers, harsh training methods are often met only with stubbornness. Westies are good with children, the elderly, and the disabled, and love to play.

Westies are by no means a good choice .... that's our tribute to Momo the Westies and espcially to our friend from Indonesia (Nick & Carla)

Linky Love Tag

We received this Linky Love Tag from Listening..Learning..Living (aka bokjae) on Saturday, July 14, 2007. We Apologize for the delay as we were taking a much needed break to rest our mind and body. It is good to take a break from time to time to travel for it really enriches our mind, thinking horizon and especailly helps us apprecaitte all the small little things that we took for granted. For example, our families, friends, love ones, etc. Travelling also makes us appreciate our own home town and country more. Although we are not as advance and progressive as many other coutries, but thank God, we all live in harmony, tranquility and "less hectic and busy" compare to the more progessive Countires. However, a note of comparison; .... our health care, transport system and quality / standard of living may be low comparing to more progressive nations, but that "challanges / blessings" helps us to make do with all the little that we have, increase our immuine systems and spend less and save more ..... :) Isn't that not a blessing in disguise ?? :)

Listening..Learning..Living is one of Casey and Peanut's favorite blog. That's why we list it in our Favourite List. The writter " Uncle Cheong" is truly a Thinking writter and he writes from his heart and wisdom. I was reading his post this morning on "Drowning Experiencing" and it reminded me of all my near death experiences as well ......... drum roll ...... there are:

  • As a todler at age of less than 1, fell backwards head first from 6 stpes of stairs as I was learning to walk / stand, admited to ICU for 1 night monitoring and had vomited several times ... thank God was alright.
  • At age of 2, was kidnapped by one of my baby sitter to a village, 30 miles from the city. Thanks God, Mom and Dad manage to find me in time :)
  • At age of 4, was trapped in a burning building, and was lucky to be alive when my grandpa, found me, wrap me in his arm and jump 2 storey from a burning building.. Grand Pa is one of my real life greatest HERO!!!
  • At age of 4.5, almost drowned when I was playing with a toy boat on a water tub (3 feet high) used to contain water. Luckily, my uncle happened to walk past the bathroom, and saw me, leg up in the air, but face in the water .... when he got me up, my face was almost purple ... :) Thanks Uncle!!!
  • At age 22, I was walking to work (at 7.00am) in Canada near York University and it was snowing very heavily with about 1 feet of snow on the road and pavement. A car suddenly loose control and was headed straight at me at high speed. The car's right front wheel was on top of the pavement while 3 other wheel was on the road, heading really fast at me as it was out of control.... It was so cold, the road was so slippery, and I could not move fast as the ground was up to I feet high of snow. All I could do was to close my eyes, prayed, and said " God Help Me!" .... Thank God, 5 meters before "impact", somehow, the car manage to gain control and miss me ..... :) God is Good!!!

Infact, there are many more, but will save it fo other times ..... anyways, back to the "Linky Love Post" Here are the guide lines :

1. Write a short paragraph at the beginning of your post and link back to the blog that put you on the list in the paragraph. This isn’t a suggestion. You need to break up the duplicate content. Someone took the time to add you so the least you can do is give them an extra link back.

2. Copy the list of originals below COMPLETELY and add it to your blog. If you would like a different keyword for your blog then change it when you do your post and it should pass to most blogs with that keyword

3. Take the adds from the blog that added you and place them in the “Originals” list.

4. Add at least 1 new blog that you KNOW is using the DO FOLLOW plugin to the list in the “My Adds” section. (Add no more than 5!) Let the people you’ve added know, so that they can keep the list going!

Lastly, Love & Life by itself is truly a blessing and a miracle! So, Casey and Peanut is passing this linky-love to the next five lovely people that visited us this week.

There are:

  1. Fina' Drea
  2. Kerala Articles
  3. Ah Soon
  4. The Far Corner
  5. Life is Just Beautiful

It's All About Friendship Tag

  • Yesterday (Saturday, June 23rd 2007) we received a Tag from bokjae. The first thing that attracted us to bokjae's blog is the title ..... " Listening..Learning..Living" That blog title is to me, original and yet so very humble.

  • We have read bokjae's blog many times and we have recently added him as our friends list. He is indeed a great character and very Tech savvy for his age/generation :)

  • From what we can gather from his blog, bokjae (aka Uncle Cheong), he is almost 60 years young. He is a retiree and full-time home care-giver to his wife; Rock a stroke-survivor. I am sure at his age, he must have experience and gone through life's hardships and blessings. Even with such rich experience, he is humble enough to listen and learn from people of all ages and all over; at the same time, enjoying the gift of life and all the blessings that life has to offer. From his blog, we gather that he is indeed, enjoying all that life has to offer to the best of his abilities, with his family and friends! We all have to learn from him! :)
  • We are very honored for the Tag and we appreciate it very much!

  • Some of us, may not understand what it means to be tagged! One thing, it indicates that you have friends and you are approachable! As all tagging game goes there are rules and here they are.

  • The Rules: Each player starts with 7 random facts/habits about themselves. People who are tagged need to write their own blog post with their 7 things as well as these rules. You need to tag 7 others and list their names on your blog. Remember to leave a comment for them letting them know they have been tagged and to read your blog.

Here are 7 random facts / habits:

1. The owner / contributors to this blog is actually David and Des (husband and wife team)

2. Casey (white Shih Tzu) and Peanut (brown Dachshund) are their "babies"

3. We love pets

4. Our favourite food is sashimi / Japanese food

5. We enjoy travelling and visiting foreign places to experience and appreciate different cultures and society. We try to go at least once or twice a year.

6. We are actually very homely couple, most of the time
