Amazing Gourmet Dog Treats Fido Sit, Stay and Roll-Over For

By Geraldine Dimarco

For most of us, canines are not anymore regarded as a pet-they are part of our family. I mean really, you go home to families who love you unconditionally and think you are the greatest no matter what you smell like right? How much more Fido who gets all excited every time you are home? Doesn't he deserve a treat for that? If you answered yes, then this article shows you what you need to know on gourmet dog treats.

OK, you might be thinking, gourmet sounds expensive-how much will this set me back? We know if there's any animal that's worth it, it's our faithful dog. The good news is that it's not as pricey as you'd think it will be. Beautiful and delicious homemade dog treats can match any fancy gourmet baskets. All it takes is a little effort to ensure that your furry friend is the luckiest canine in the world.

These delectable goodies will be a hit to any pet. You must take care though, that the ingredients you put in these canine creations are not toxic to them. You may not know it, but there are some food that will not bode well for the animal's health.

Some of the ingredients that are harmful for the dogs are caffeine, chocolates, macadamia nuts, onions, alcohol, and parts of the tomato plants just to name a few. Some of them can be ingested in small quantities but will be detrimental when taken too frequently, or too much. The others should not be eaten by the canine at all. Chocolates for instance, contain theobromine that may cause heart conditions that is potentially lethal for the poor canine.

The best thing about making these homemade dog treats is that you have better control over what constitutes your doggie's nutritional requirements. Ask your vet about his recommendation specific to your dog's health needs. Mix in fruits and vegetables in his snack time. It doesn't have to be bland and yucky. You can add a spoonful of peanut butter in his biscuits or smother a vegetable treat in parmesan cheese to make it interesting.

Now, I completely understand that it's not easy to refrain from spoiling your pet with these delicious treats, but refrain you must. It is critical that you maintain the animal's weight as obesity is the culprit in many otherwise avoidable canine diseases. You must monitor his calorie count. Snacks should only be around 10% of his total diet.

You can look at a lot of fantastic dog recipes on line. Make an extra effort to find those that are healthy and organic. Bump up the fun factor by employing the use of special cookie molds designed for dogs. There are some shaped like bones, paw prints or dog silhouettes. You never know, maybe your gourmet dog treats will get so famous other appreciative pet owners will want to buy some from you.

Dogs-can you imagine your life without them? Make their day by making their favorite treats. Don't know what it is yet? Well, what's stopping you? Find a great recipe and create your canine masterpieces today!
