Rabbit Care and Tips

By Jane Claire

Pets make the house of individuals or families a full package. Kids admire them more than mature people because they find them adorable to play with. Obviously, mature people are aware of the responsibility that comes with it. All pets including rabbits require attention. Visits to the doctor, regular food and a clean domain are a must for them. Once you buy one of them, you need to be familiar with all these things.

Before we deal the rabbit necessities, let's go first to some of the offered species. Usual types are dwarf, cottontails and rabbits which have lop ears. Rabbits of the dwarf type are little and are recommended to stay at home while the cottontail kind can adapt to any weather and can stay outdoors with not so extreme conditions. The rabbits with lop ears are similar to a cottontail when it comes to size and has ears which are long and floppy. Your desired rabbit type will be partly determined on how you should take care of it.

First like cats and dogs, rabbits require shots from the vet to keep them in good health. People carry diseases that can harm animals if we do not wash before and after we handle our pet. Rabbits can be susceptible to worms and other dietary parasites so it is important to take your rabbit for its vet visit when needed. Speak with a vet about your rabbit's care and any questions you may have before you complete your purchase.

Rabbits eat pellets, hay and vegetables. Most rabbits like to munch on carrots or lettuce. You want to feed your rabbit everyday to ensure they are receiving the proper amount of food. Unlike cats that eat when they are hungry, a rabbit can over eat and become over weight. Some commercial feeds for rabbits contain nuts; however, these are typically not good as they are high in fiber. You can feed your rabbit fruit as a treat, but you should not do so daily.

Housing for a rabbit can be in your home or if you wish to keep them outside a wooden cage will work. Most outside cages are designed to let the waste fall through so they are not sitting on it or laying on it. The cage should be built large enough to house an adult rabbit with bedding spread out to make a nice little home. They should be given plenty of water and have it changed out daily. Having a backyard for your pet rabbit is a great idea. They can roam for a little exercise, which all pets need.

The cleaning maintenance for their place should be done every 7 days or more using the mess and odor of the cage as the basis. A clean habitat can prevent a rabbit from acquiring any sickness and have a longer lifespan. They usually last in the range of 5 years to one decade.

Rabbits are among the most adorable pets because of their fuzzy ears and cottontails. They don't need a lot of things. Just give them regular food and a clean cage and they can stay with you for a long time. You kids would certainly be proud of having a rabbit and will really convince you to bring it to any pet show. Pets are certainly required to bring a family fun and fulfillment.
