Dog Health: Treat Kennel Cough

Kennel cough is a dog condition where it suffer
from an upper respiratory disease in dogs. When
your dog is coughing hard, seek medical
attention right away as they might be having a
hard time breathing. Kennel cough is usually
caused by bacterial or viral infections which
blocks the airways of your dog. Medically, the
disease is known as tracheobronchitis, canine
infectious tracheobronchitis, Bordetellosis, or
Bordetella. The virus can spread throughout your
household and has the ability to affect your
other pets.

Kennel cough is not a life threatening
condition, however the condition still needs to
be treated so your dog is able to maintain good
health. This disease can be treated naturally
and herbal medicines can also help the treatment
process by:

• Strengthening the immune system of your
dog

• Breaking down and clearing the infected
lining caused by the viruses

• Natural antibiotics

• Normalizing mucous membranes

• Alleviating the cough

• Providing a natural source of Vitamins

Specific herbs can be added to your dog's diet
by mixing it in your dog's food. Herbs help
boost their immune system to protect them from
diseases. Some example of these herbs are:

• Echinacea

• Ginseng

• Garlic

• Kelp and

• Rosehip

Echinacea and ginseng are herbs that treat a
mild kennel cough and can improve the immune
system of your dog which helps fight the
infection. However, if you think that the cough
is severe and disturbing your dog in their daily
routine then it would be appropriate for you to
bring him to your local vet to ask for some
antibiotics. A cough suppressant can also be
prescribed by the vet.

Your dog will not be admitted in the hospital if
it is infected with kennel cough, unless the
condition is so severe that the only solution is
IV therapy. Herbs can also support your dog from
emotional stress or just old age. Herbs can
help:

• Improve the immune system

• Avoid illness

• Fight off colds and viruses

• Boost strength and stamina and

• Aid recovery from operations or illness

If your dog is infected with kennel cough,
separate him from other dogs so that the disease
has no ability to spread and infect other pets.
You can also prevent you other pets from being
infected by giving them herbs as well. After
separating the infected dog, clean and sanitize
everything that the infected dog has been in
contact with as there might be virus particles
around there.
