Dogs can look healthy and enthusiastic even with fleas on their hair and skin but they may not handle it for long especially if the numbers of those blood-sucking vermin have grown tremendously. Fleas can cause a lot of damage to your dog's skin and health. Aside from wounds obtained from scratches and bites, fleas can also cause tapeworms and another worst case, leukemia. To keep your dog protected, eliminating the number of fleas from their bodies and in your home is the best thing that you can do. Flea prevention can be done in many ways.

Natural Ways of Flea Extermination

Making use of the natural ways eliminates the threat that might take place when you and your pet have been exposed to powerful chemicals. Prepare the water, add two cups of fresh rosemary, bring it to a boil and let it soak for about half an hour. Afterwards, separate the liquid, add it to a gallon of water and it's done. There are many effective ways that pet parents are using to free their beloved dogs from fleas. Some of those are applying of yeast, making lemon sprays and creating an apple cider vinegar solution.

Fleas and its eggs may thrive on different parts of your home and regular cleaning is necessary to stop these pests from multiplying. These cocoons which can release up to a thousand eggs may be settling on your upholstery, bed sheets, carpet, rugs and even on your dog's bedding. Regularly send those stuffs for laundry to eliminate the threats to your dog and even to your family. Once everything is clean, spray all parts of your house with an insect growth regulator (IGR). If you are letting your dogs to go outside for exercise or play, make sure that your lawn or backyard is being trimmed down regularly. Fleas may also reside on grassy areas and the best way to eliminate them is by reclaiming these places.

One of the best ways to prevent flea infestation is proper care for dogs. Regular grooming and bathing can help on early detection of fleas on your dog's body. By making use of anti-flea products such as soap, powder and shampoo, you can totally kill the eggs and adult fleas. A finely toothed comb that is especially devised to remove ticks and fleas can also help on dislodging those fleas that are clinging tight on your dog's hair.
