Tips To Have The Best Behaved Dog On The Block!

Remember that your dog doesn't process thoughts
the same way that you do. Making this assumption
when training your dog results in disappointment
and even disaster. This article should help you
approach training in a more effective way.

It takes small steps to crate train your puppy;
they must become accustomed to it. Once your dog
seems to have acclimated to the crate itself,
close the gate and feeding him through it.
Gradually increase the amount of time your dog
spends in the crate, starting with just a few
seconds. If the dog becomes upset, then you need
to take a step back and slow down the training.

Establish a calm environment when you enter a
room that your dog is in. Play time needs to be a
distinctive time you initiate. Don't acknowledge
your dog until you decide. This will establish a
controlled atmosphere.

Unless you offer a distraction or stimulus, your
dog will probably focus exclusively on a single
thing. Your dog can learn to focus less and less,
except for your commands, by using repetition.

Always have a treat for rewarding your dog. The
reward is a great way to teach your dog that he
has performed a task that you wanted him to do.
Your dog will become able to realize the
difference between what you consider as good and
bad behavior.

You have to have patience when you are training
your dog. This will make it less likely that you
or your dog will become frustrated or upset with
the process of training. Your pet wants you to be
happy, but he or she cannot always understand the
human language.

Be mindful of how long the sessions are when you
train your dog. You will bore your dog if your
spend a lot of time on just one thing. Do not
spend more than 10 minutes on each session.

The best way to teach a dog good behavior is to
never let poor behavior take hold. It is much
easier to get a dog to learn the right way rather
than making it unlearn its bad habits. If you do
not want your pet to beg for food, you should
never encourage it by feeding it table scraps.

By being consistent you can teach your puppy to
"hold it." When you are home, take your dog
outside hourly. When the dog eliminates outside,
offer it praise. Don't yell at your dog for
having an accident. Screaming at your dog only
frightens him, and is not going to make him
understand that the behavior was wrong. It's
better to teach your dog to expect to potty
outside by taking him out a few minutes after
meals or after being crated.

When you travel with a dog, you need to
anticipate all of its needs to help it avoid
unwanted behaviors or accidents. Water, bowls,
bathroom bags and paper towels are good things to
have to help everything run smoothly. Do not fret
about food for your dog, you can buy it wherever
you are.

Remember that training your dog is about
establishing a set of rules you both will live
by. When these rules have been set and they are
consistently followed, you and your dog will
enjoy your time together even more! Do not let
your dog forget what has been learned. If you
continue to keep up with training your dog you
will curb any bad behaviors that have popped up.
Once your dog is able to understand the basics,
you and your dog are limitless as to what tricks
and behaviors can be achieved.
