Good Time To Turn In Forbidden Pets

By Stephen Ayer

Do you remember when you were a child enjoying hide-and-seek? When it was time for you to round up the last player who was hiding, the hider would holler, "Olly olly ocean free." That's somewhat what a couple states did in early 2012 for exotic pet owners. To get the owners to surrender their illicit pets and animals not found in the region, law enforcement turned their heads away and put out their hands to confiscate animals.

A couple of states specifically have not long ago granted a free pass to those who own illegal exotic pets: Connecticut and Florida. The chosen creatures feature alligators and crocodiles, some large snakes and reptiles, and large primates. When Connecticut did its last pardon, it wouldn't take lawful exotics such as iguanas and pythons; but Florida would take them to make certain a person who could no longer care for them did not introduce them into the wild.

Owners surrendered a large assortment of creatures. A Connecticut newsperson mentioned the animals included a numerous sorts of exotic birds, a 6-foot iguana, a leopard tortoise, a Burmese python, an alligator, a tiger and a mountain lion. The catalog of animals amassed by Zoo Miami in Florida included a serval cat, tortoises, turtles, several kinds of exotic birds, pythons, coatimundi, red-eared sliders, and monitor lizards.

If you are an animal lover, you can't help but wonder what some people have in mind when they do something dumb like have 40 rodents or 30 snakes. That is the form of activity that gets the attention of the police and spoils things for responsible pet owners.

As animal lovers, we all want our freedom to look after the species of creatures we are equipped to handle. Yet owning these types of creatures is sort of like having children. And it's something you must not do if you aren't prepared for them. This is especially true if you are not in a position to look after them.

It's a good idea never to get yourself into difficulties to begin with. Simply put, you understand beforehand that possessing a crocodile is a terrible idea, hence don't get one. In fact, you can actually get something such as a dragon and delight in it more since it is safer.

A conversation with animal management in your city could help you understand what pets the state allows you to possess. Not all exotic pets are unlawful. Becoming informed about what your region permits may even provide you with guidelines concerning what sort of pet you might like.

If you've got a pet you should not have, or one that you can no longer maintain, figure out if your region has these kinds of exotic pet amnesty functions. Overall, it's going to be better for everyone, as well as other wildlife. Naturally, when you are searching out a new location for your banned pet, you should keep your identity concealed until such time as you know what's going to happen.
