Finding A Perfect Pet In An English Bulldog Puppy For Sale

By Ryan Lee

Many things need to be considered when looking to buy your pet dog. Each breed has pluses and minuses in their care and concerns. It depends on what you want to be responsible for when choosing your pet. When choosing an English Bulldog puppy for sale all this must be considered. Before committing to this or any dog you must decide if you are willing to be responsible for what they need.

Though they had a somewhat unsavory beginning, being breed for the sport of bull-baiting, they are overall a very gentle and loving dog. Bull-baiting was a sport where the dog grabbed a bull by the nose and hung on. They were bred to be very ferocious and to remain tethered to the bull and not be thrown off.

This atrocious sport became illegal in 1835. They then began to be bred to be gentle and loyal, and that became how they were after a while. They were selective bred after that to have a body shape more like the one they have today. Most people who love the breed find their look very attractive and cute.

This medium sized dog weighs around 50 pounds and is very stocky. He has been bred over the years to have a mouth formation with protruding lower teeth. This gives him a humorous, endearing look. He has a straight, glossy coat that requires very little care and has very little shedding. The shedding is seasonal, so is not so much of a problem.

For the person who is not very active, this makes an excellent dog. He does not require much activity, in fact at times it can be harmful to them. They are quiet, not barking much. These two characteristics makes them very suitable for apartment life. They only require a daily easy walk. With supervision, they are good with kids and with other dogs. Of course, all dogs need supervision under such situations.

These dogs have both straight tails and corkscrew tails with different degrees of curl. The curled tail dogs have a lot of potential problems, both with grooming and with health, while the straight tailed animals are relatively free of any health problems. Both, however, are very attractive dogs, and if you are willing to take the extra care required, curly tailed dogs may be preferable to you.

Though bulldogs don't have many major health issues and care concerns, they do have some issues. These are mostly skin problems due to the many folds in their skin, which contribute to skin infections. They also have dental issues due to the shape of their teeth and jaws. This requires daily inspection of the mouth and cleaning of the skin folds. Any odors may indicate infection that require treatment.

The curly tail, though attractive, can cause feces to become trapped and needs daily cleaning to prevent infection and odors. There is a very serious health with the curly tails. Due to spine defects associated with it, they often have a condition called Hemivertebrae. These malformed spinal bones associated with it can cripple the dog and cause significant pain. Surgery is also often required. This can cause increased care and expense for the dog.
