Those interested in growing and raising beef
cattle on their acreage can find this very
rewarding. It is good to be reminded again and
again that the key is to be informed, so that you
don't set off in an enterprise which you are not
familiar or that is not economical.

Hence, before you roll up your sleeves and run
out and by a whole passel of cattle, there are a
few things you should consider first.

Hence, before you roll up your sleeves and run
out and by a whole passel of cattle, there are a
few things you should consider first.

1) Location

One of the most critical factors to give it a
thought would be whether the location is
compatible with the society nearby. Is the land
zoned for big animal space? How many animals can
you have? How will neighbors react to the project?

2) The Human Resource

You and your family may gain a lot of
satisfaction from raising cattle. Children can
gain from the added obligation and families can
be reinforced as they work unitedly. However, the
project will require a commitment of time. Even
when cattle are on pasture they need to be
observed daily to make sure that they have
adequate feed and water and to assure that they
are healthy

3) Facilities

Yep, you read that right. You can't raise beef
cows in a barn - they need room to graze. To be
exact, a cow needs about two acres of good
pasture. In certain areas, for example out west
where the pasture is seems like dessert, a cow
will require as much as 40 acres. Hence, the
first thing you need to think about is the number
of cows you can have based on the quantity of
estate you have. If you owned to many cows on
your estate, you will bear to purchase hay for
them even throughout the summertime.

4) Health Management

Cattle are vulnerable to different types of
illneses. Good planning and management, along
with use of common vaccines and pharmaceuticals
will usually enable your cattle to avoid most
disease problems. Determine a local vet who
includes raising cattle themselves and get advice
from practitioner about a herd health program,
prior to obtaining any cattle.

5) Sources

As with any purchase it is important that you get
value for your money. If you are not sure on how
to buy a beef cattle then it is recommended to
bargain with a seller who is honorable and fluent
with this side of the business. This could
include a family member, friend, neighbor, local
farmer or County Agent. The point is not to go
into a deal making with little or no research at
all.

Cattle can be bought directly from beef producers
with the price dependent on the local market
circumstances. The local market is founded based
on the commodity markets a distance away from
where you live. These are then changed for each
particular region of the country dependent on
market and local conditions to transportation
costs. These local conditions could be such
variables as abundance of feedstuffs, moisture
conditions and supply and demand. Markets will
change through the seasons and from year to year.
