Dachshund Training: Helpful Tools to Use

By Margaret Evans

Some people believe that successful dachshund training can be attained even without those often controversial training tools. Given the right training approach, it could be true that these training tools are not needed anymore. But why opt for the difficult way when you can reach your objective using the easy way?

Inspite of the controversies relating to some training tools, we cannot deny the fact that many dog owners opt to use such tools because they are not only effective but easy to use as well. These tools include:

Treats. The treat is used as a reward for correctly following a particular command. By rewarding your dog whenever he did something desirable, you are helping him figure out that he gets great things for doing that act hence motivate him to do it again until he learns to associate the verbal command with the act. While dog treat shouldn't be used to substitute the regular pet food, it should be rewarding enough for your dog. However when using this dachshund training tool, don't forget to slowly replace it with praise if he has learned the command.

Collar. There are several types of collar one can use during training - flat, slip, prong and martingale are some of the types owners or trainers use for training. The collar is an excellent tool to control and direct a dog as to what you want him to do. However, care must be taken when using a collar since incorrect use can strangle your dog or injure his neck and throat.

Leash. The leash is commonly used with a collar. It helps to restraint or control a dog and keep him safe during training particularly if dachshund training is done in an open area. The leash intended for training must be robust but safe enough for your dog.

Clicker. A clicker is a small tool that creates a clicking sound when pressed. With clicker, you'll be able to instantly let your dog know that he did the appropriate thing. Accompanied by a treat, clicker is surely one tool you just can't neglect.
