Learn to Pick The Best Dog Food Brands

By Michael Considine

With a growing number of pet owners contemplating the connection of their dog's health to what he eats, they are wondering about the best dog food brands. If you know what you're doing you can find the best brand of dog food by reading the labels.

It should be ease if that was true, but unless you can decrypt the code used by pet food industry, I fear that you are not getting success.

The truth is finding the best dog food brands are much harder than finding healthy foods for you or me to eat.

The trouble here is that pet food producers are allowed to incorporate ingredients that are not for human consumption in their foods. In fact, they can even use left over by-products and call them healthy sounding names to fool you into thinking they are good for you pet!

One would imagine that seeing dried eggs as ingredients for dog foods would mean the foods are good. The fact is that these foods can contain eggs, egg shells, and similar tissues which are unfit for human consumption.

In the research for the best dog food brands, I found that there are 68 ingredients, that if found in food, you should stop feeding your dog this immediately. 41% of these ingredients can actually be fatal, maybe not right away but they will shorten your pets life.

I also found a free confidential dog food report written by a guy that has hired a testing firm to find the best dog food brands in North America. The report is copyright protected, so I can't re-print it in this article.

I do know that there are only nine types of dog food in America that were deemed healthy enough to actually end up on the best dog food brands list.

A number of the best name brands in dog foods are on the list of 27 brands considered but failing to make the final list. Some of the big brand names such as Science Diet and Iams were not of sufficient quality to pass the tests to get on the list.

This happens to be a supplementary report and there were six brands that have been deleted from the original list. Actually, this report details the positive and negative factors for each brand.

Because of my finding of what goes into commercially made dog food, I now feed my dogs a homemade dog food diet. Even knowing what I know there are times that it is just easier to open a bag and pour some food, but I refuse to compromise the health of my dogs. That is why I continued to do research until I found a reliable source for the best dog food brands to supplement my homemade food.
