In 2007 and 2008, much of the industrialized world entered into a deep recession.[2][3] Contributors to this downturn included high oil prices, high food prices, the collapse of a substantial housing bubble which sparked an interrelated credit crisis. Many large and well established investment banks as well as commercial banks in many nations around the world suffered massive losses and even faced bankruptcy. It was argued that huge increases in commodity and asset prices came as a consequence of an extended period of easily available credit and the primary cause of the downturn was exceptionally financial.[4] This crisis has led to increased unemployment, and other signs of contemporaneous economic downturns in major economies of the world.
In December 2008, the NBER declared that the United States had been in recession since December 2007, and several economists expressed their concern that there is no end in sight for the downturn.[5] The recession could be the worst since the Great Depression of the 1930s.[6][7]
Today ...... The World Economy is Worsening!!!! with no signs of improvements, ....Even Animals are also hit, left by the owner

Dear Readers .... Its Monday Blues ...... so have fun, lay back a little and enjoy some Good Dog Jokes & Humor
A man takes his Rottweiler to the vet and says "My dog is cross-eyed. Is there anything you can do for him?" The vet says, "Well, let's have a look at him." So the vet picks the dog up while examining his eyes. Finally he says "I'm going to have to put him down." "What? Just because he is cross-eyed?" "No, because he is really, really heavy."
A little girl asks her Mom, "Mom, may I take the dog for a walk around the block?" Mom says, "The dog is in heat, go ask daddy."
The little girl goes to her father, "Dad, can I take Susie for a walk around the block? Mom said the dog is in heat and that I should ask you." "Hm." He answers, takes a rag, soaks it with gasoline, and scrubs the dog's butt with it. "OK, you can go now but keep Susie on the leash."
Little girl goes and returns a few minutes later with no dog on the leash. Dad asks, "Where is Susie?" Little girl says, "Susie ran out of gas about halfway down the block. But another dog is pushing her home."
As an elderly lady sat on her front porch reflecting on her long life, a Fairy Godmother suddenly appeared and offered to fulfill three wishes for her.
"Well," said the woman, "I guess I'd like to be rich." POOF: The Fairy Godmother turned her rocking chair into solid gold.
"And I wouldn't mind being a young and beautiful princess." POOF: The Fairy Godmother turned the old woman into an exquisite young princess, with a priceless crown of jewels.
"Your third wish?" asked the Fairy Godmother. "Could you possibly turn my wonderful dog into a handsome prince?" POOF: There, in front stood the most handsome young man anyone had ever seen. She stared at him in awe, completely smitten.
As he came toward her, her knees weakened. He bent down, brushing his lips across her ear as he whispered, "I bet you are sorry you had me neutered."
SANTIAGO - Help is on the way for hundreds of household pets left behind in the wake of a volcano eruption in southern Chile, an animal welfare group said.
The Coalition for Ethical Control of Urban Fauna, which has been critical of the Government's attention to stranded animals, said the Emergency Bureau offered to carry food to pets in Chaiten, a town 10km from the volcano of the same name.
An estimated 450 dogs and 350 cats were left when the town's residents were evacuated after the initial May 2 eruption, the volcano's first in thousands of years.
At a demonstration in Santiago, Alejandra Cassino, the group's representative said: "They asked us to bring food for the pets, and police and soldiers would feed the animals."
The group is lobbying for access and time to save the animals.
.....Dear Readers.... this is another extract articles for the Five Dogs that were recently included into the Animals Hall of Fame
TORONTO, May 5 (UPI) -- Five Canadian dogs were inducted into Purina's Canadian Animal Hall of Fame in Toronto Monday for their courage, loyalty and life-saving heroics.
Among them was a poodle from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, who defied orders to stop barking in February 2007 and led her owners to discover an abandoned newborn baby wrapped up on their back porch in sub-freezing weather, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
A German shepherd from St. Catharines, Ontario, was honored for pulling its owner from icy waters by the leash wound around the man's wrist.
A weaten terrier from Winnipeg, Manitoba, was also credited with waking its partially deaf owner to the carbon monoxide alarm
Among the other heroes named was a Toronto-area miniature schnauzer who alerted its owner to an elderly neighbor who had fallen into his swimming pool, the report said.
The bone marrow or stem cell transplant, a procedure that every year saves tens of thousands of lives and won for the Seattle physician who pioneered it the 1990 Nobel Prize in Medicine, appears poised to come full circle and finally become more widely available to those who first made it all possible.
Dogs.
"They helped us figure out how to help save ourselves, and so this represents a big giveback to the canine species," said Dr. Jeffrey Bryan, a veterinary oncologist at Washington State University.
Bryan is spearheading a project to soon launch what would be the world's first large-scale clinical transplant program for dogs. The program is expected to become available to treat dogs with lymphoma sometime this summer.
Bone marrow transplants had been done experimentally in dogs over the decades, Bryan said, and clinically for a few dogs by some pioneering private-practice veterinarians.
STAMFORD - Four volunteer fire departments will get oxygen masks designed for animals.
Tony Olive, a captain at Turn of River Fire Department and a fire marshal with Long Ridge Fire Company, has received six kits containing the conical masks designed for snouts instead of faces. Olive plans to distribute masks to Springdale Fire Company and Belltown Fire Department as well.
Long Ridge and Turn of River each will receive two kits because each has two firehouses. The other two departments will get one kit each.
Without masks, firefighters must improvise, usually with masks for humans, to help an animal suffering from smoke inhalation. The Invisible Fence pet mask donation program gave 11 kits, each containing three sizes, to Stamford Fire & Rescue in March.
The city's fifth volunteer company, Glenbrook Fire Department, already received masks from Stamford Fire & Rescue.
Crews have also had to evacuate pets because of the damage in rural Newton County. Workers from Pet Smart in Joplin have taken 11 pets from the Country Run Pet Resort in Neosho on Gateway Drive. If you were boarding your pet at the Country Run Pet Resort, you can stop by tomorrow between 9am to 7pm, to pick up your pet. Please bring some form of identification to verify that the pet is yours. .
Five canines were all top dog as the Purina Animal Hall of Fame announced this year's inductees.
Corey, a miniature schnauzer, dragged his owner, Jay Sobel of Toronto, down the street tracking a faint voice in distress, and located an 80-year-old man who had fallen into freezing water while inspecting his swimming pool before the season started.
Peeka, a Lhasa Apso poodle in Saskatoon, whined and barked to alert her owners, Ed and Lee Anderson, that a newborn baby wrapped in a blanket had been left on their porch in -29 C weather.
A German shepherd named Freddie pulled his owner, Mike Hambling, out of frigid water when Hambling fell through the ice near the family cottage in Coldwater, Ont.
And Maggie May, a Wheaton terrier in Winnipeg, woke up her owner, Suann DeCourcey, to alert her that the carbon monoxide detector was going off.

Katherine, of Atlanta, is only eight and is very shy.
The moment she saw Rocky's picture on the Internet, it was love at first sight.
Making a difference in this world can come in all shapes and sizes, like the difference Katherine Hawkins has made in Rocky's life.
"She looked at the dogs on there, she saw Rocky and that was it," said her mother, Suzanne Hawkins. "She had to have him. She fell in love."
Rocky needed surgery. He'd been hit by a car and his broken leg was never treated by his previous owners.
So to prove her love, Katherine raised the money, first with her allowance, then by selling cookies.
"You cannot resist a little 8-year-old girl holding this envelope saying would you please give money to help this dog that's been run over," said Suzanne.

Dear Readers, before looking at the pictures below, kindly note that our beloved dog Peanut (Dachshund Cross Breed) is not injured, harmed, forced, scared or abuse in anyway when these pictures were taken.
Ever since young, Peanut has the natural ability to climb cushion sofas, chairs, tables, and lately, we found out that she is now able to climb "fences" that we build for Casey and Peanut's 'play' area.
She enjoys climbing, and she was well supervised when these pictures were taken. ....... so enjoy the pictures of Peanut, our Spider man Dog (Dachshund)
Starting her ascend ....
Using the wall, as support as well .....
Almost there, now using her chin to pull herself up .....
Yes ..... almost there, now I can see you mommy .... says Peanut
Taking a short breather ......
Yes ......I can see clearly now, the view across the fence ...
...... Freedom, so near, yet so far (high)
I think, I will stop right there .....
That's enough for today, Peanut enjoying the view from the Top
See, her happy face .... she really does enjoy climbing and once she reaches the top, you could just feel and sense the satisfaction from her facial reaction ....
OK, its time to descend .... slowly, following the same steps, and oh ya ... the wall for support as well :)
he he ..... slowly, I'm almost touching ground, Houston, the Dachshund is coming home :)
Hope you like the pictures and kindly note that, Peanut is not hurt in anyway, nor forced to climb...... she does that all the time :)
p/s Dear Readers, does your dog do that as well???
Here are 10 Reasons Why You Should Have a Dachshund
(taken from Hacienda Malaysia Premier Dachshund Champion Breeder)
1. He is an ideal companion as a pet. He will follow you, love you, and amuse you all day every day (You are graciously allowed to share your bed & board with him. You will trip on him, and watch him laugh at your clumsiness.)
2. He is a born sportsman. He will turn his nose to anything above ground, while below ground, he will, given his chance, hold his own with the best. Dachshunds were originally bred to dig badgers out of holes. (He will chase all pet cats, birds, & dogs from his exclusive territory (which is as far as the eye can see). He will also roto-till your fresh-laid lawn and new flower beds.)
3. He is a born gentleman. His aloof dignity is above canine skylark and petty yelping. (What they don't want to see and don't want to hear does not exist.)
4. He is courageous to a remarkable degree and will stand up for his rights against any foe. (From behind a fence there is none braver.)
5. He is odorless, always clean and easily housebroken. (You'd be odorless too from the daily baths needed made necessary because of finding "neat" things to roll in. House - broken is more like it. **Know a good handyman?** )
6. He comes in several sizes, colors and coats to suit your special taste. The tiny miniatures also come in all three coats and colors; smooth, longhaired and wirehaired, and from a beautiful shiny black and tan to a rich Irish Setter red. There is no other breed which offers such a selection. (They are like peanuts, you can't stop with just one, and there is always a new variety or color or size to drool over.)
7. He has a well founded reputation for being rugged and strong.Equally at home in either cold or warm climates. (If it is cold, they are in your bed or in their sweater. If hot, they grab the seat in front of the air conditioner and drink out of your ice tea glass.)
8. He asks only that he be with you whether you live in a mansion or the most humble abode. He is at your side day and night and he will warn you if any strangers are lurking about. (He is willing to share all you have, if you eat dog food, he'll eat dog food. If you have steak, he gets steak ! You couldn't get rid of him if you wanted, and anybody stranger than you SHOULD get barked at.)
9. He is most affectionate, and delights in riding in your car or sleeping close to you (if you will let him) at night, but he is content with his own bed and a simple cover that he can pull over his head, with just a shiny black nose to show his presence. Just to be near you and show his love for you is all he asks. (He is not stupid enough to let a good sucker out of his sight. People are such pushovers for the old "I love you, I love you" routine.)
10. He is a wonderful companion for your children, and will take a lot of rough play and enter into the spirit of fun, for he is a born comedian. You can trust a Dachshund for they have never been known to betray a confidence.
(They love kids, the younger the better, children can be blamed for so much that the "sweet li'l puppy wuppy" couldn't possibly have done (they don't realize how tall a fully stretched Dachshund can reach).
A Dachshund will never write a tell-all unauthorized biography, but don't leave your pot roast within reach.)
ONCE YOU HAVE OWNED ONE YOU'LL NEVER BE WITHOUT ONE!!!ONCE YOU HAVE BEEN OWNED BY ONE, THERE IS NO HOPE FOR YOU!!!!

Have you ever asked why or ever wonder why a Dachshund Dog is sometimes called or known as a wiener dog, or a sausage dog or even a hot dog in other parts of the world? ..... :)
..... most probably its due to its short-legged, elongated, long, narrow build, they are sometimes referred as Sausage Dog, Wiener Dog & Hot Dog in many other parts of the world .... heh heh heh .... cute huh :)
A while ago, we received this email. Just wanna share with you all, .... no harm intended, this is strictly for entertainment and enjoyment purpose only ..... :)
