A Touching Briefly On Overview Of Home Remedy Ear Mites Solutions For Your Pet

By Wendell Ruben

When does someone use a home remedy ear mites treatment on their pet? You'll know it's time when you see scratching around the ears that doesn't stop, and witness the clumps of brown junk that keep coming back to the area, despite repeated attempts by you to clean it off. These are signs of an infestation that must be dealt with.

Ear mites are parasites that feed off an animal's blood supply, and are easily passed between those living in close quarters. Although known to infest dogs, they're more common to cats and other types of pets, such as ferrets and rabbits. Left untreated, the pests continue to multiply, and feed off the blood and tissue. Not only does this cause pain and make the ears bleed, but in the long run, permanent damage, such as hearing loss, can occur from bacterial infections.

From these things, you know how important it is to have your furry friends treated as soon as possible, yet, making an expensive appointment with a veterinarian isn't always an option for some people. Fortunately, there are effective treatments you can use to rid your pet of mites, that are just as good as the pricey ones you pay for at the vet's office:

Mineral or corn oils - Inexpensive mineral oil can be used to combat mites, by smothering them. Corn oil does the same thing, but also soothes the irritated ear canals and speeds up the healing process, due to certain properties in its make up. To use, place some on a few cotton balls, and get a decent amount in the canals. Clean around the whole ear area. Repeat the process every day, for a total of three days.

Olive oil - An oil that's essential to maintaining good health, it's also beneficial in killing ear mites and halting their reproduction cycle, as well. However, if you'd prefer to use almond oil, it's effective in this case too.

To make a solution, take 400 IU of vitamin E oil and mix it with one half ounce of olive oil, and administer through a dropper. You need to be sure the solution is room temperature - and no colder - when you squeeze the dropper into the animal's ear, or he'll probably physically show you his discomfort. Clean the ear area and the canals carefully, with several clean cotton swabs. This treatment needs to be repeated every other day, for a total of 6 six days, then allow the ears to rest for three more. Upon resuming the treatment, repeat the same "every other day" protocol, this time for six weeks - as this breaks the reproduction cycle.

Yellow dock root extract and water - This is a very effective way to combat mites. You mix 9 drops of the extract, with one tablespoon of water, and make sure it's room temperature before you apply the 1/2 dropper-full of solution into the ears. Keep in mind that because mite eggs are tough to kill - especially in regards to most of the home treatments - you must do this every other day for a number of weeks before stopping. As with the olive oil, repeated application to the's ears will eventually put a stop to the mite's reproduction cycle.

Mite control with shampoo - Since mites don't always stick to the ear and head area of an animal, it's a good idea to shampoo the coat to keep it "mite free". A great way to complete the wash is with a final rinse of yellow dock tea and water.

Shampoo for mite control - Mites can travel to other areas of the animal's skin - in fact, all the way down to the tail. Using an infusion of yellow dock tea with water as a final rinse to "mite proof" the coat after bathing, is another effective way to keep him "mite free".

So don't worry if you can't always get to the vet for an ear mite problem. One of the many home remedy ear mites treatments should work for your furry friend - if the directions are carefully followed. Keep in mind, animals don't understand what is happening to them when you're trying to help them - they only know they want it all to go away. So, it might be wise to have a friend standing by for support when treating little Snooky.
