Should you own a bird as a pet you must already
know that there are so many types of food for
your feathered friend that it can be very
confusing to figure out which one to buy. You can
purchase your bird food along with some bird
feeders from any gardening or hardware stores and
sometimes even grocery stores too.
All types of birds will eat at different levels
as some feel quite comfortable eating from the
ground while there are many other birds that will
prefer to eat from higher places. So when feeding
birds you should consider placing a bird feeder
at several different heights which can be for a
variety of birds.
Consider to examining the bird feeder before
buying it to make sure that it is resistant to
rain or snow. This way the food for each bird
will stay fresh for them. You should also open up
the feeder to make sure that it can open and
close easily whenever you need to clean it out.
There is a large variety of foods to feed the
birds. Bird seeds are the most common food that
is being used. You can find several types of
seeds but it is the black sunflower seeds that a
majority will eat the most. Always remember to
keep the seeds stored where it is cool and dry
this way you will ensure its freshness.
Suet is another type of bird seeds that are mixed
with berries and other ingredients too along with
meat fat. This kind of seeds are now popular with
chickadees, nuthatches, blue jays and
woodpeckers. You can create you own suet by
melting the meat fat and the just add some
berries, seeds and some other ingredients with
the fat and then mix it well together.
Nectar is another kind of bird food that is
commonly used for humming birds. It is a mixture
of water and sugar. This too you can make
yourself by boiling four parts of water and then
add one part sugar and then just mix it together
and let it sit so it will then cool off.
The humming birds are attracted to the color of
red as it was once practiced to add red food
coloring to the home made bird food. Should you
really want to make sure that they will come to
feed from the feeders, you can plant several
flowers with some red blooms or even try tying a
few red ribbons to the bird feeder. This should
help you a little with feeding your fine
feathered friends as they are sure to enjoy your
company as you will enjoy theirs.
