You can use a shock collar for dogs without any worry about hurting them. These collars are safe and effective when used correctly to train your dog. A remote shock collar comes in two pieces, the collar with a receiver on it, and a hand held transmitter that you would carry. When your dog is doing something that he or she should not be you press a button and it sends a small shock through the dog.

A shock collar for dogs can have various ranges of distance that the remote control transmitter will reach the receiver on the collar, some models come in short range which is about 1/2 mile, your dog can be up to one-half mile away and still receive a shock from the transmitter. A medium range remote will reach a distance of just under one mile, and long range model can be used up to two miles. The range of the transmitter is how far away the receiver can be from the remote.

A couple of the behavior problems that can be helped with a shock collar for dogs are, chewing, digging, jumping on furniture or people, chasing cars. The collars can also be used for barking problems but there are bark collars sold just for this specific problem.

These collars can be used for basic training commands and is recommended in dog training for dummies, such as sit, stay, come, heel and others. Experts recommend using a shock collar for dogs that has a wide choice of stimulant levels that can be adjusted at the transmitter. If your dog is not responding to the lowest level on the transmitter you can increase the stimulation in small increments until you get the desired response.

When looking features on shock collar for dogs having a choice of stimulant levels is just as important as the range. A small dog cannot handle a stimulant meant for a large dog.

When you are considering buying a shock collar for dogs keep in mind the range that the transmitter has and if it has a choice of levels for stimulation. Experts agree that a shock collar is not dangerous to use on a dog the shock collar for dogs only release a slight static feeling.
