How To Potty Train A Puppy With Consistency

Whether you want to know how to potty train a puppy to go indoors or outdoors these guidelines will work for you. If you are training a puppy to go indoors make sure that they will have a permanent place to go right from the start. If you are training a puppy to go outside do not paper train them indoors first, you will only need to retrain them to go outside.

When you get your puppy, you need to understand that they will have accidents, whether they are being trained for indoor or out they will not go where you want them to all of the time. When the accident occurs, and you can be sure that it will, it is important to show them and tell them NO firmly, and then bring them to where they will be doing their "business". Be sure to clean up the mess entirely so there is no odor left, or they might go there again.

When you are learning how to potty train a puppy, keep them on a schedule, feed them at the same time every day. Water is a different story, puppies need a lot of water so you should keep out a fresh supply all day and only take it up a few hours before bedtime. After they finish their meal take them to where they will be going to relieve themselves, either to their indoor dog potty or outside for a walk or in your yard.

Never play with your puppy if you just brought them to their potty place, they need to know why they are there. If they don't do their business right away be patient wait awhile and bring them away but be sure to bring them back in a short time. When you see your puppy smelling around the house there is a good chance that they have to go to the bathroom.

When you are learning how to potty train a puppy you need to know when they will have to go to the bathroom. You should take them out after a nap, after a playing session, as soon as you get up in the morning, last thing at night, and whenever you hear or see them getting restless.

When you have to leave our puppy alone and you don't want to keep them in a dog crate, you will have to have a place that is easy to clean up in case they have an accident. You may need to get a plastic gate to put across a doorway, if you are doing indoor potty training put them in the room with the pads. Always take your dog out as soon as you get home.

Knowing how to potty train a puppy is important if you do not want to frustrated the first couple of weeks. It is not hard but it is time consuming, but you are building a friendship that will last a lifetime.
