Article From SubmitYOURArticle.com: Basic Chinchilla Care Information: Raise a Happy and Contented Chinchilla
Chinchilla are rodents from the mountain ranges
of South America. It gained popularity in the
1960s as a house pet. Today, many families are
adopting chinchilla because of their unique
characteristics and features. If you want to own
a chinchilla, you have to remember a few things
in order to keep this pet healthy and strong.
Here are the following considerations to keep in
mind.
1. Shelter
Place your pet chinchilla in a wide cage. The
cage must be cleaned to get rid of any harmful
bacteria that can cause sickness to your pet.
Chinchilla urinate in the same spot so change the
food and water daily to keep the whole
environment and the pet clean. Remove also its
droppings daily to avoid infection from spreading
out.
2. Bed and Floor
Put a soft cloth or foam inside the cage. You can
also place wood that is not painted with any
chemicals for a stable bed. A cage with wire mesh
floor is excellent for easier cleaning. Just make
sure that it's reliable and safe to use.
3. Temperature
Chinchilla can't survive extreme heat. Provide
proper ventilation if the temperature is starting
to get high to keep the pet cool and comfortable.
Find a place where there is enough fresh air.
Allow the pet to adjust to the environment too.
4. Food and Water
Chinchilla have sensitive digestive systems. It
can't eat different kinds of food especially
those that contain high sugar. To make sure that
you are giving unprocessed and natural foods, buy
them inside pet stores or to a reliable online
pet shop. Provide your pet enough water to
prevent any dehydration from happening. Place the
water in a bowl or a bottle and attach this to
the side of the cage.
5. Security and Protection
A chinchilla cage should be safe from any hole
that might catch its legs. Make your chinchilla
happy. To do this, free your pet out from the
cage once a week. Just make sure that the area is
clean and safe. Keep all electrical wires to
their proper places and throw all poisonous foods
that might attract the senses of your pet.
A chinchilla is a very playful and energetic pet
so give it time to play. To do this, provide the
cage with an exercise wheel for it to move and
run. This will stretch your pet's legs and will
improve its health. If you want to carry your pet
around the room, secure its body with both of
your hands.
