How To Make Sure If You Are Dealing With Mange?

The dog that has mange is miserable to say the least. The itching and irritation of this skin disorder is maddening. One reason for this is one kind of mites actually gets underneath the skin, laying eggs there. What can you do for the treatment in a dog that has these kinds of itchy symptoms?

There are two types of mites that generally affect dogs. There are the sarcoptic and the demodectic mites. Each of these mites causes skin irritation, but the severity will be far worse in the case of the sarcoptic mite. This is because the sarcoptic mite actually burrows under the skin.

Sarcoptic mites burrow into the skin. This is why they are much worse in the skin irritation that occurs. However, the treatment that is used for these mites is about the same as the ones for other types of this skin ailment. No matter which form your dog may have, the irritation is going to be less than pleasant. Be sure to consult your vet soon for the relief he or she is going to need.

You may be given a shampoo that is Mitoban or you may be able to use Ivermectin if your dog is not a collie or mixed in breed with a collie. Collies have severe reactions to Ivermectin that can be deadly. Use these medicated treatments carefully and follow the vets orders precisely for the best results.

Humans do have a form of human sarcoptic mange they get as well. This form is known as scabies. The mites that cause each case are different, but the symptoms are the same. If you have a bite form a dog sarcoptic mite, it will result in a welting of the skin. You will not end up with the dogs symptoms. Humans have to be around other humans that are infested with scabies for intense itching symptoms to occur.

If you are having trouble with your pet being extremely itchy, you should first consult with your veterinarian. Many skin conditions carry the same symptoms as mange, but they also may be the signal of underlying diseases as well. Some disease can present in a dog with loss of hair, swelling, and itching. Only the qualified diagnosis of a vet should cause you to treat for certain ailments involving the skin.

Take care to treat the bedding and other areas your dog may be at a lot. Mange mites can infest fabrics and other materials used for bedding. Using hot water and a disinfectant is a good way to get rid of them on these kinds of surfaces.
