Employing Weimaraner Training To Alleviate Separation Anxiety Can Aid You And Your Dog

By Paul Jamieson

Many dogs experience separation anxiety, but Weimaraners are one breed that is a bit more likely to succumb to this disorder. This breed has a propensity to become incredibly dependent on their owners in a way that's unique to this breed. They require a great deal of attention from their owners, but they give the same kind of attention in return. With Weimaraner training to alleviate separation anxiety, it is possible to gain back some control of your house and create a happier, well adjusted dog.

Weimaraners are pack animals, as are all dogs. This means that they need interaction with other dogs (and humans) in order to feel comfortable and happy, but most people do have to work and can't spend every waking hour providing companionship for their dogs.

Dogs that aren't used to being left alone can easily slip into a panicky and apprehensive state when their owners leave for the day. Training should begin as a puppy so that the dog has grown up in an environment where they are used being left alone. Adult dogs may be a more difficult task, but still, options are available in which to help train older dogs as well.

Training may not be easy, but if you're patient and develop a routine that you actually stick to, it can make the process a lot faster. It's not always easy to be patient, kind and keep a positive attitude when you have to deal with coming home to find your house in shambles. Your dog will be very happy to see you, but you, most likely, will not reciprocate the feeling. Your first reaction may be to scold the dog for it's bad behavior, but you'll probably find that this does absolutely no good. The next time you leave and come home, you're likely to find the same kind of destruction as you did before the scolding.

After coming home to a house that has been completely ransacked, may end up making you extremely angry, especially if it's something you experience on a daily basis. Your pup may be excited and happy to finally see you again, but you'll probably be in no mood to return the affection.

Weimaraner training to alleviate separation anxiety often begins with tiring him or her out. Lots of exercise, especially before you leave is a good way to put him or her into a peaceful, restful state. Before you leave make sure you give the dog food and a few treats as a reward. Supplying them with lots of toys and proper things to chew on might prove to be helpful as well. After a while, if this routine is persistent, your Weimaraner should begin to become more at ease with being left alone, because all of the negative energy will have been worked out before you leave your house. It won't be instant, but with time and patience it is possible to achieve the desired results and keep your house from looking like a tornado just blew through.
