Tips To Clean That Long, Silky Hair Covering Of Maltese Dogs

By Daniel McBrown

If you own a Maltese dog, you must be very much amazed with its amiable, soft, thick hair. Being light weight close to 6 pounds, you can carry your pet around since you care about its nice and pure-looking coat tainted.

Always make sure to keep your dog clean daily. Use a comfortable comb to brush its fur. You can wet the hair first by spraying a little water and applying conditioner. Stroke the hair gently on the part closest to the skin then brush carefully going to its outer layer.

The procedure of working first at the bottom is repeated until it reaches the top layer of the hair to avoid tangling.

Brushing and spraying coat conditioning oil is not recommended as it causes hair loss. It is better to use the hands or fingers when trying to smooth the fur.

Removing the mats, dead hair and knots is done tenderly, as well, with the proper use of comb and the combing process itself.

Keeping the dog's body wet first before applying shampoo is good. They can be shampooed twice. Proper shampooing includes scrubbing the body from the back along the back, legs and tail going to the front. The dog's ear is also cleaned carefully with a small, soft cotton ball to remove any remains of water that can cause infection.

Wash the face of your Maltese with a soft cloth. You can use a coat handler to act as refresher, de-tangler and conditioner. Since the skin of the dog is easily irritated, rinse it well until all the traces of soap are gone.

There should be no water from the coat when applying conditioner to the dog's hair especially on the ears, tail and leg. Blow drying and combing to make the hair flat and silky is next. Grooming the Maltese dogs is done on a regular basis to maintain their smooth and silky coat.
