Train Your Dog
Just getting a dog to live with you is not all of it. You have to train your dog as well. That is the most important thing. A well trained dog is easy to manage. While on the other hand, a dog who has not been trained can give you a headache.
A pet which has been well trained is much easy to manage, love and care for. They are also much less dangerous. On the other hand, an ill tempered and wild dog is not only difficult to deal with; it is also much more harmful.
Some tips on understanding your dog:
* Make efforts to understand the dog's body language: dogs, unlike humans cannot communicate with words. Instead they use body language to communicate. They communicate with their various body parts. Their eyes, their ears, the movement of their tails - these are the tools of communication for dogs. You can understand their emotion by observing their eyes and ears. They send messages by the movement of their heads, tails etc. so you must know how to decipher these languages.
* The sounds that they make: you can understand their emotions by listening to their cry. The squeak of a puppy, the growl of a dog will convey different emotions to you.
How to train your dog?
* Consistency:
The very first principle which should guide your training is consistency. This refers to your use of words, your tone and your actions which you use while training your doggy. Before you begin your training session, set a parameter of training. This means clearly figure out in your mind what are you trying to teach your dog and how are you going to accomplish it.
* Keep it short:
Your training hours as well as the commands that you use for training needs too be short. Remember that dogs can give attention to one particular thing for a very short span of time. They can hold their interest for a very short span of time. For example if they are chasing after a ball, they will do that for a very short period of time and then they will lose all their interest in it. Then they will move on to a new activity. So you should keep the training period short in order to make it an effective training.
* Don't use any type of force or punishment on your doggy:
Keep in mind that you should never inflict hurt on your dog. If you feel he is not in a mood to follow your command and do as you say, don't force him to do so. You should never punish your doggy for any sort of mistake that he makes. In short, you should never be too hard on your pet. Remember that he is not gifted with the intelligence to understand the cause of your irritation. He does not know that you are being irritable because he is not capable of doing things. He just finds you irritable!
