Different Ways To Help A Dog With Separation Anxiety - Explained!

Copyright (c) 2011 Joe Maldonado

Studies show that the second most common reason
that dog owners abandon their dogs or give them
up is because of dog separation anxiety. A dog
with separation anxietybecomes problematic since
they have a tendency to destroy things inside
your house, defecate and urinate anywhere,
scratch the walls and the doors, and would
become too noisy due to their whining and
barking, whenever you left them inside your
house. Because of the occurrence of this
unwanted behaviour, it is important that dog
owners should employ different ways to cure or
to prevent their dog from suffering from such
condition.

First and foremost, the most important thing
that a dog owner should do is to know how their
dog should be handled. They need to know whether
their dog is from a submissive or a dominant
breed. Knowing such stuff means that you will
know how to treat your dog and at the same time
avoid having them to experience this condition
in the first place. Most dogs suffer from this
condition is because of how their owners treat
them. Thus, it is important that you will treat
your dog the right way. The most important fact
that dog owners should know is to never treat
their dog like humans.

Treating them like a family member could only
encourage them to develop separation anxiety.
Thus, if your dog is submissive, then you should
treat them like your family member. In this way,
they won't see you as the Alpha dog. If you are
not the alpha dog or the leader of the pack,
your submissive dog won't feel upset when you
leave. However, if your dog is of the dominant
breed, then you need to establish yourself as
the Alpha leader. When you are the Alpha leader
of your dog, then you are allowed to leave
without them getting upset.

If you treat them like a family and will not
assert dominance over your dog, then you will be
viewed by your dog as part of his pack and he
would be upset if you leave without his
permission. Therefore, knowing the right way to
treat them would avoid experiencing your dog
with separation anxiety. Furthermore, there is
another way that can avoid having experience dog
with separation anxiety.

Most of the reason why your dog is exhibiting
this condition is because of the lack of
exercise. Without exercise, your dog will
continually build up their energy and it would
come to the point that it will stress them. Not
only it will lead to separation anxiety but it
will also lead to a multiple of behavioural
issues. Exercises such as letting them run the
yard for some time, walking your dog to the
park, and having him play in the yard, are a few
of the examples of exercising your dog.

These exercises will release physical and mental
energy, avoiding them to have stress in the
process. Thus, it is important that before you
leave, your dog should already have his exercise
for the day. In this way, you are guaranteed that
your dog will behave well when you are away and
there would be no things destroyed when you get
home.
