Enumerating the Different Methods of Assisting a Dog with Separation Anxiety

The second most reason why dog owners left their
dogs or abandon them is because of separation
anxiety. This is because a dog with separation
anxiety has a big tendency to become destructive
with their behaviour. If left unattended and
untreated, a simple case of separation anxiety
could escalate into something more dangerous and
destructive. Thus, it is important to employ
different methods to assist your dog to get over
this condition.

The very first thing that a dog owner should do
when they encountered a dog with separation
anxiety is to check the background of their dog.
Knowing the personality trait inherent in their
dog is very crucial in treating your dog. This
is because there are breeds of dogs that require
a different treatment to pass through this
condition. Dominant dogs had to be handled the
right way. This means that you need to establish
with your dog that you are the alpha leader and
not part of the pack. Dominant dogs have a big
tendency to be upset when their pack leaves
without their permission. This attitude would
lead to separation anxiety. Thus, to avoid this
scenario to occur, you need to let your dog know
that you are the leader. In this way, when you
leave, your dog would not get upset since pack
leaders are allowed to leave in their
understanding.

Therefore, from this knowledge alone, it is
crucial to understand that these kinds of dogs
don't need to be treated as part of the family.
You have to be dominant and not let your dog
dictate your behaviour. On the other hand,
submissive dogs need a different treatment. With
submissive dogs, you could treat them as part of
your family and you don't need to assert your
dominance. In this way, when you leave, they
won't be upset since they haven't seen you as
the pack leader. However, if this might be the
case, it is important that you won't give
importance to your dog whenever you leave home
and whenever you arrive. In this way, they would
treat your leaving them as a normal occurrence
and nothing to be upset about. From these
suggestions alone, we could say that the owner's
treatment on their dog plays a major role in
avoiding them to experience separation anxiety.

Moreover, one of the most reasons why dogs
experience separation anxiety is because of
their lack of exercise. Dogs are pack animals.
They are used to having rigorous activities all
the time and they are build that way. But if you
don't let your dog have their everyday exercise,
then there is a big tendency that they will have
an energy build-up that won't be spent and it
could lead to stress. A stressed dog will
exhibit behavioural problems.

Thus, to avoid this occurrence, it is
recommended that you engage in a daily habit of
letting your dog has his exercise. You could
just let him free in your yard, let him run and
play as long as he like. You could also go for a
walk, tagging your dog. In this way, its mental
and physical energy will be released and your
dog will experience less stress when you leave.
All in all, if you would just implement these
two methods, you could avoid having your dog
with separation anxiety.
