Golden Retriever Training for a Car Sick Dog
Even if they're large in size, golden retrievers
make great travel buddies too so long as they
went through and achieved effective golden
retriever training. Through training, a golden
retriever is taught vital lessons needed in
order for him to become a well-behaved pet his
owner can be pleased with. But even a pet who
responds well to commands such as sit and stay
might have weak spot too. One common weakness is
the fear of car rides.
While some dogs are having a time of their lives
sticking their heads out of the window, there are
those who get scared simply by seeing their
master's vehicle. And even if it's no big deal
if you cannot take your furry friend on trips,
know that he may need to ride a car at some
stage in his life - be it for vet appointments
or other personal purposes.
The first step to train your furry friend to
enjoy car rides is to stay with him in the car
while doing some daily activities like reading
the newspaper, making a call and writing your
shopping list. At first, stay there for some
seconds and gradually increase the time of being
there as you go along. Help him associate the car
with something positive by rewarding him with
praise or treat for being in the car without
barking or howling.
If he is used to being in and out of the car,
start the engine but don't go anywhere. Just let
it run for a few seconds and gradually increase
the time to get him used to the sound of a
running engine. Then take short drives beginning
from the garage until the driveway. Give a treat
and praise her for being good. Increase the
distance as time passes and make certain to head
to destinations he'd like. Apart from parks, you
can take him when fetching the kids from school
or eat ice cream at the nearest ice cream house.
Continue the process until he is able to travel
in the car comfortably regardless of distance.
Golden retrievers are brilliant, kind and
friendly dogs thus golden retriever training to
get accustomed to riding a car wouldn't be too
difficult. Just do not forget - repetition,
patience and consistency when training are keys
to a fun-filled and stress-free road trip with
your pet.
