How to Keep Your Dog From Digging

It is a fact that some dogs can create quite a
lot of disorder in the yard by digging holes.
Not only are these holes annoying and can run
the planet grass, they can be dangerous for
children and humans if stepped in. Of course you
could always put on boots to your dogs feet
prevents him from digging. But that's not a
viable long-term solution of course.

The best way to prevent your dog from digging in
the yard is to give him plenty of exercise so he
is not board and thus begins digging. In fact,
boredom is the chief cause for digging. If the
dog is not getting proper exercise and has
nothing else to do, digging in his or her eyes
is the most viable option.

If dogs are left alone all day while the owners
are work, this can be a serious problem. In many
cases this is when digging takes place. Sometimes
in the summer months dogs dig to find cooler
rounds. You'll know this is the case if you see
your dogs digging holes and then lying in them.
If you believe this is why your dog is digging
holes, provide your dog an area that he or she
is free to dig if they wish and keep background
wet with a sprinkler or hose it down each night.
The dog will learn this is a cool area and where
he or she is permitted to D if desired. This
eliminates the dog digging in flowerbeds and
grasses and destroying them.

If hot weather is not the problem, the other
issue maybe lack of exercise and simple boredom.
Some breeds are worse at this than others in need
more exercise. If you believe this to be the
case, it's important to give your dog plenty of
exercise on a daily basis. Walking around with
him or her in the yard shortly before going to
work simply is not the answer to prevent the
boredom from lack of exercise. A longer walk is
required to burn off excess energy. If the walk
is sufficiently long, when the dog returns he or
she is less likely to suffer from boredom and
begin digging.

Again, some dogs are more prone to this problem
that others and require more exercise in order
to correct the problem. Some dogs require
exercise in the morning and the evening because
many of them are active during the night in this
is when digging takes place. If you deem this to
be the case, be sure and give your dog plenty of
exercise before nightfall so they will spend more
than I sleeping instead of digging.

In any case, plenty of exercise and area
designated were digging is allowed is a simple
solution for correcting the problem of unwanted
digging. Understanding your dogs needs and
providing what's missing in the dog's life,
whether it be a cool place to sleep or exercise,
is usually enough to prevent most of this problem
behavior in dogs.
