Should You Feed Your Pet A Raw Dog Food

By Jamie Lansley

Many dog lovers nowadays get confused regarding the best type of food to give your best pet. As of today, two types of foods are being examined carefully as to which is better to use in feeding dogs. One is the commercial food and the other is a raw dog food. Loving your dogs means giving them the best diet and to do that, you have to be knowledgeable enough to choose the best menu to give your dog. It will be presented in this article both the boon and the bane of giving your best buddies raw foods.

From the word raw, it means uncooked. Uncooked or raw foods are thought to be something nutritious to the carnivores. They are claimed to lessen foul odors of the dogs and leave their teeth cleaner and healthier.

Dogs have evolved over a thousand years ago feeding themselves raw foods. Thus you can say that it is very logical to feed your best buddy with an uncooked foods. On the other hand, it cannot be assumed that this natural raw feeding means better feeding especially that uncooked foods have still in them the bacteria which might cause some illnesses in your best friend.

The preparation of commercial foods requires the application of heat to kill the bacteria present in fresh meats. However, the heat required is too high that may also destroy the proteins and vitamins in the meat. In order to replace the lost and destroyed nutrients, food manufacturers add supplements but this is not a guarantee.

Commercial foods contain grains which trigger allergies to your pets. When grains are heated, their primary structure is altered giving off another substance. This substance is found out to cause most of the reported dog allergies. Another thing is that grains are hard for dogs to digest since the digestive organs of carnivores are designed to digest more of meats rather than grains.

Another harmful effect of feeding your dogs with a commercial menu is bacterial infection. Usually, when commercial meats are used in feeding dogs, they stay in the mouth and teeth and pile up. This will result to bacterial propagation and consequently infections and poisoning.

One good thing for commercial foods is that there are food regulations and associations which they need to abide that will ensure the quality and safety of your pets. Raw feeding on the other hand does not have this kind of regulatory associations.

Most of the carnivores do not chew their food. Their mouths are designed to crush foods and not chew them. This is why in raw feeding it is usual that the meat is prepared whole so that your pet could easily crush them. The bad thing is that this is a major cause of dental fractures and fat build ups in the intestines.

The decision is for you to make. Whether you decide to use a raw dog food in feeding your best friend or not, you have to make a lot of considerations. If possible, go to some veterinary doctors and have them check and evaluate the health of your dogs. You have to know every now and then if what your dogs have eaten are properly ingested and digested. This is a safety practice for your pets to remain healthy.
