T-rex Facts and Interesting Features
There are many T-Rex facts that you will find very interesting. One of the largest predators of the prehistoric times was the T-Rex. Formally called the Tyrannosaurus Rex, this carnivore inhabited the forests and trees in areas that are now western North America. They existed about 65 to 85 million years ago in what was referred to as the cretaceous period. Theinitial remains of this dinosaur were found in eastern Wyoming in 1902 by Barnum Brown.
This dinosaur weighed approximately 6.5 tons and stood at 13 feet tall and 40 feet long. The head was very large and it sat on a short neck, which helped to support the weight of the head.
While this dinosaur actually had four limbs, the two front legs were very short and somewhat worthless. The back limbs were massive and extremely muscular however. This skull of this creature was said to be huge, in some cases measuring up to five feet. Pointed teeth aligned the jaw, which was approximately four feet. When this animal bit down on its prey it would exude approximately four tons of pressure, causing instant death. Additionally, this beast could potentially consume to 500 pounds of meat in just one bite. The Tyrannosaurus Rex preyed upon smaller animals, crushing their bones as he ate.
Although the skull was enormous in size, the brain was said to be very small in size. However, it was very in tuned to its vision and smell senses, causing it to have the ability to notice other species in a far off distance. It is debated whether or not this creature hunted down its prey or simply ate the remains of already deceased creatures since the brain was so tiny. The running speed is also called into question, with some professionals maintaining that it could only run up to ten miles per hour.
