Basset Hound Training: The Most Effective Devices

It's not unusual if you will discover a dog owner
believing that basset hound training is not easy.
With this breed known to follow their noses when
they pick up an interesting scent, training them
is definitely one challenging task a dog owner
may encounter. But every challenge isn't
impossible to surpass as long as you are loaded
with the suitable tools to keep you going.

Below are the devices you can use to train your
pet right behaviors:

Collar.

Available in several designs and colors, the
collar is not just a pretty piece of accessory
placed around a dog's neck. It is where dog
tags, containing vital information, is attached.
Besides that, it also helps in managing your pet
during various circumstances specifically during
basset hound training period. It can be used to
address unnecessary barking, chasing cars and
passersby at the same time teach him basic
commands like come, sit and down. Normally
attached to a collar is a;

Leash.

Leash, also referred to as lead, comes in
various lengths and designs. The standard leash,
typically available in four to eight feet
lengths, is perfect for everyday use and basic
obedience training. For different types of
training, a leash that is six feet long with
sturdy clip would be most suitable. Retractable
leash on the other hand is good if you would
like to allow your pet to wander from you but
it's not great during basset hound training
since you will not have much control over your
pet. Furthermore, this type of leash is not
advisable to dogs that are not yet trained on a
regular leash nor if you can't keep an eye on
him.

Crate.

The crate is one of the most beneficial dog
training tools a pet owner can get. Most
effective tool for housebreaking, the crate can
keep both your pet and your house safe when
leaving him alone at home. Chewing and other
behavior issues can be addressed with the help
of crate. Additionally, if you plan to travel
with your dog, whether it is by car or plane, it
is advisable to use crate to assure your pet's
safety and comfort at the same time abide with
the policies of most airlines concerning
traveling with pets.

Reward.

Rewarding your pet for doing desirable behavior
is one way to let him know that you are pleased
with what he did. It could be anything your pet
find truly rewarding; praise, chew toys, treat,
raw hides and the likes. When rewarding your pet
with treats, just be sure not to do so
excessively to prevent him from becoming obese
and treat-dependent.
