Dog Beds - What Each Canine Needs

By Kim Jones

For years, we knew for a fact that our 135 pound Newfoundland slept on the bed - or the couch - while we were gone, so we bought him a memory foam bed and now we don't have that problem any more! This bed works just like the memory foam mattresses that we two-legged creatures sleep on. Both humans and dogs enjoy the same benefits of support, and most beneficial for old dogs with joint problems. We placed his bed at the foot of our bed under the ceiling fan. There were many times, when we caught him in a state of nirvana as he just lay in bed on his back with his fur floating in space. He is one contented dog!

Since he is getting older, we make an effort that he stays physically fit and emotionally happy. We want him to live long. We tenderly call our dog, BooBoo. We frequently spoil him with goodies but not to the level that is harmful to his well-being. We limit his food intake and the treats we give him are healthy. He has the propensity to drink and eat his food in mouthfuls, as do most animals. Few seconds after, his bowl is empty.

When he drinks his water, and he drinks a lot, he just hurriedly drink it as well. We searched for studies and found out that gulping food is harmful for BooBoo. It can cause acid reflux, overeating, erratic eating, choking, vomiting, digestive and nausea problems. There was this container that we found for him. It controls the momentum of his eating and drinking. I think we should have one too for ourselves because we often like to speed up everything including our drinking and eating.

You probably haven't recognized a Newfoundland, but its breed has very thick fur and discards greasy dander. Their fur serves as their protection and insulation from the freezing waters of Newfoundland during rescues. Nevertheless, the prickly heat of the summer in our place can be unpleasant for him.

He sheds a lot, and his coat has a distinct odor. He starts to smell awful during winter. It takes him so long to dry, that we don't like to bathe him when it is so cold.So we had to find an alternative for bathing. Indeed, we found it. We encountered a remarkable ion brush. It uses negative ions and doesn't need water or chemical in cleaning and removing the bad smell, and even untangles tousled fur.So now during the winter months, BooBoo smells and feels as clean during the summer ones, and everyone is happy.

Yes, we do pamper our pets. But they give us so much in return. A lot of exercise, healthy diet, adequate rest and most particularly loads of love yields a fit and happy dog.
