A Perfunctory Look At Paris Metro System

By Pierre Fontaine

Paris possesses an excellent public metro transport system and thus lives up to the expectation of the travellers.

The routes on the Paris metro system can be seen in the form of coloured lines on the Paris metro map that gives an impression of a piece of modern art with its myriad of floored patches.

Paris metro system is among the oldest of the metro systems in the world. The 100-plus year old metro system of Paris operates on 15 different lines that are named after their destinations and this manifests its experience.

The Paris metro has approximately 200 kilometres of track which connect 368 metro stations. Paris metro stations are also very reachable as wherever you are in the city of Paris you're never more than 500 meters away from a metro station. The only problem you'll have is choosing which Paris metro station is closest from any given building.

If you are travelling to Paris on vacation then the extent to which you use the Metro and eventually the type of ticket you choose, depends on a few factors. Firstly, if you are staying at a Paris hotel in the centre of the city then you probably won't be using the metro that much.

In Paris it would suffice if you buy a single metro ticket for a particular place because a large number of the important sights like museums and monuments of Paris lie close to one another.

Attendants are available in all the metro stations to assist the travellers in getting their metro tickets from the ticket booths. A 'Carnet' is chosen by the tourists who will stay in Paris for a week and who would use the metro better. It is a pack of 10 metro tickets that permit the tourists to go by Paris metro 10 times.

Alternatively, you can buy an orange Paris metro ticket. This ticket allows you boundless journey on the metro for a week. Prices of both these tickets depends on how many zones you intend to travel through, so it's a good idea to figure out where you wish to go during the week and only buy a ticket for those zones so as to save money.

Paris Vistes are particular tickets meant for the tourists from the US. This allows them to pay unlimited number of visits on the RATP network. Paris Vistes can be reserved through the internet before you leave for France.
