Ways to Have Safe Puggle Training During Cold Weather
Being a crossbreed of pug and beagle, the
likelihood that your puggle may inherit the
beagle's single-mindedness and the pug's
strong-willed disposition always exist. If a
puggle inherit both or one of these qualities,
puggle training can become fairly hard
especially to a new dog owner who didn't spend
time knowing more about this breed.
Unfortunately, the situation can get worse
during winter.
Before winter comes, it is important to take
necessary precaution to ensure that your dog
stays safe even when training.
- The puggle's short coat can't help him
withstand cold weather. Hence if you must take
your pet outside for a short training or
exercise, it is best to have him wear jacket or
sweater to protect him from cold. However, some
dogs are not too happy about having a piece of
clothing around their body. If your dog is one
of them, do not force the clothing to him
instantly. Get him accustomed to it by
associating the clothing with something fun or
rewarding like treats.
- Jacket or sweater isn't the only thing your
pet needs. He needs to have booties too to
protect his feet not just from cold but also
from anti-freeze and other harmful objects
hidden by the snow.
- If you use a fireplace to help reduce the
cold, ensure that you install a safety enclosure
to protect your pet from flame and soot. But
despite the safety enclosure, you cannot tell
what is going on inside a dog's mind so it is
best to keep close track of him around fires.
- If taking out your pet to do his business,
always remember to watch him closely or better
yet, go with him outside. A cold puggle may need
to find a warm area in which he can eliminate
himself rather than relieve in the spot you
selected as his toilet. With you around, he's
less likely to get lost while trying to scurry
away. Additionally, you may consider
paper-training to avoid going outside especially
when it's extremely cold.
- Be careful with antifreeze. It is very toxic
and even just a small amount can kill your dog.
If you believe that your pet has been exposed to
antifreeze, contact your veterinarian
immediately.
- Prevent your pet from eating snow. Snow may
contain toxic chemicals and other hazardous
objects that could cause digestive upset,
diarrhea and vomiting.
Indeed, there are steps that can help keep your
pet safe however if the temperature is extremely
cold, you may need to avoid your pet from going
outside. Outdoor puggle training must also be
put off until the temperature rises.
