Pertinent Facts About Bulldog Champions

Champion French bulldogs are a class by themselves. The ordinary pet French Bulldog is in itself a unique animal with a pugnacious and quizzical look. The Champion French Bulldog is bred to be just what it is supposed to be; a champion.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) has laid down a set of rules and regulations to breed Champion French Bulldogs. Because of this, they are bred with strict adherence to these rules. Latest breeding techniques are used with cautious selection procedures. This has helped to breed a temperamentally favorable bulldog. The dogs also need to compulsorily undergo certain tests as prescribed by the Canine Eye Registration Foundation and the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals. Those animals which stand the test are declared fit by qualified veterinary surgeons.

The American Kennel Club has laid down highly tough rules that must be followed by breeders of Champion French Bulldogs. Even an insignificant level of overlooking the guidelines renders them unfit. Consequently, they are not able to receive the fundamental certification, which means that it is impossible to participate in championships. Every minute detail of the participant is examined, before it is announced a champion.

In appearance a Champion French Bulldogs come across, at first glance, as muscular animals of heavy bone formation with smooth coats. The animal should be compactly built and be either medium or small in structure. The potential Champion French Bulldog must seem to be an alert and intelligent animal with an air of curiosity about it and an engrossed but vigilant look. The only modification which is allowed is the removal of the dewclaws, a vestigial fifth claw; that is done for health reasons.

A typical Champion French Bulldog is well behaved, adaptable, affectionate, of an even disposition, has the ability to get along with companions and playful but not unduly rambunctious.

Symmetry and Proportion are traits that a Champion French Bull dog must invariably be endowed with. No animal is perfectly symmetrical but the more it is, the better. All features should be well spread and bear a good relation with one another. The distance from the withers (the highest part of a dog's back) to the ground needs to be in proportion to the length from the same to the commencement of the tail, giving the dog a compact look. No feature should stick out distinctly so as to attract attention either by being excessive or deficient, thus making the animal disproportionate. While such dogs may never be champions, they can nevertheless be excellent house pets not to mention alot cheaper. Actually, if you look around the right places you may also get your hands on some Free French bulldogs.

The proper height requirement for the Champion French Bulldog according to the rules is between twelve and thirteen inches-not below twelve inches and not above thirteen inches. The weight must not be more than twenty-eight lbs.

A square-shaped, relatively larger head is characteristic of the Champion French Bulldogs. Their eyes have to be well-defined and dark, placed far apart. Their round eyes of moderate size must either protrude or provide a grim look. A straight and fixed look of its eye should show neither any haw nor the white part of the eye. The color of the eyes is permitted to be light only when the animal is of a light color. An essential feature is the ear shaped like that of a bat, which is broad at the bottom and runs straight to form a round tip. The ears also need to appear considerably high and placed far away from each other. Its nose must be black in color, otherwise it is not eligible for selection.

The AKC has prescribed simpler and comprehensible norms for the other parts of the Champion French Bulldog, specifically the muzzle, skull, neck, back and tail. Failure to adhere to these norms ends in disqualification. Generally, any Champion French Bulldog is the only one of its kind, thereby making it a valuable asset.
