Train That Dog With A Few Simple Tips And Tricks

By Steve Mary

Having a trained dog is a great thing for you and your dog's happiness. A well mannered dog shows what both of you know and expect from the other. Once trained, you will not have to worry about behavior problems when taken out into public or left home alone. It might take some effort, but teaching your dog tricks and manners is an important investment in everyone's happiness.

Behavior problems that suddenly occur with no reason may indicate a medical problem that needs to be evaluated by a veterinarian. If an animal is suffering from pain or an undiagnosed condition, it may react aggressively to certain stimuli or behave in an atypical manner. This is how animals communicate the fact that there is something wrong with them, since they are unable to inform us directly.

Use your dog's name often to get and keep his attention. Use it as often as possible when you have your puppy during the first weeks, the puppy will make the connection. For best results, the dog's name should be short and not sound like any other word in the English language.

Always use your dogs name when you need his attention. You must have a good response from your dog in order to have a proper amount of control. Call your dog by name 10 times each day until he readily responds to your voice with no further encouragement. In addition, you should never punish your dog for coming to you when you call its name.

Introductions to other animals should be done very slowly. Weighs the pros and the cons before adopting another pet. Getting compatible pets is the key to a healthy home.

A healthy diet is essential for your dog. A poor diet can negatively affect them in various ways. It can not only damage their health, it can also influence their behavior. With the right healthy diet, your dog will be more energetic and eager to please during training sessions.

In an effort to alleviate your puppy's teething pain, give him plenty of chew toys. You also need to try to have other items he might chew on out of his reach. Immediately replace it with one of his designated chew toys. Teething pain can be soothed by a washcloth that has been soaked in water and frozen.

Ask your family to help you train your dog by using the same commands you are teaching him. For example, one person correcting your dog from jumping by saying "get off" and another using "down boy" will confuse the dog and be counterproductive to your training efforts. Focus on specific commands for your dog and teach everyone the right way to say them and you will reach your dog training goals.

You should not tie up multiple dogs where they can reach each other, no matter how friendly they are. The dogs chains could get tangled up and cause harm to the dogs as they struggle to get free. For example, a large dog could tangle the chain with a smaller dog, wrapping the chain around the neck of the small dog, causing it to die.

The important thing to understand about dog training is that it is about setting a precedence of what is expected from the relationship. The two of you will get so much more from each other once you figure this out. Keep in mind that you must continue to reinforce everything you have taught your dog. Keep his memory crisp, and do not let any deviations from acceptable behavior slide through. Once your dog is trained properly, your dog can do so much more.
