5 Pointers for Taking Care of Aviary Finches

What are the things to remember when caring for
aviary finches?

There are different types of finches, such as
Zebra finches, Gouldian finches and other wild
and endangered varieties. The most important
thing for taking care of aviary finches is a
comfortable home. Aviary finches need their
space to exercise and play around. Remember that
finches do not use the perches to exercise,
unlike other birds. They would need to exercise
by flying in order to stay healthy. The place
where the cage will be located must provide them
with just enough sun exposure as Vitamin D is
crucial for their health.

How to design your aviary finches?

Remember that every aviary finches is different.
To create the best aviary for your pet, you would
have to design it according to the cage's size in
order to make it work. The layout will depend on
the type of finches, the climate and weather
conditions in your place, and if you will decide
to breed them in the future. Many would prefer
the patio or solarium-style aviary that's
connected to their house, while some would
choose a free-standing facility. Some aviary
finches can be built to resemble green houses, a
barn or a chicken coop. It will depend on how you
will style it and how you plan to manage and
maintain it. Just make sure that the temperature
is right, especially during the mating and
breeding seasons.

How big should it be for the aviary finches?
This would depend on the number of finches that
you currently have and would like to have in the
future. According to veteran's aviculturists it
would be best to allot two to three times the
wing span of a bird's width for each aviary
finches. Moreover, it must be six times the body
of the bird for its length, and four times the
bird's body length to consider the height.

What are the things to remember before setting
up an aviary for aviary finches?

Before setting it up make sure to check for any
zoning regulations or noise ordinances in your
area, especially if you are living in a
subdivision. Make sure that the community around
you will agree on the plan and that it will not
cause any problems for neighbors. These birds
are sensitive and would not be able to withstand
too much moving or sudden changes in the
environment.

Designing the aviary for aviary finches

The aviary finches must be easy to maintain and
it must have a natural look and feel. Place
layers of sand, gravel or wood shavings like
pine over the concrete. Make sure that someone
will be there to scoop up the dirty sand or
shavings every now and then. There must be
enough food and water for their nutrition and
another water source that birds can use to play
and bathe.
