Large Outdoor Rabbit Hutches

When you're a rabbit owner, you have a couple of
housing options for your furry friend. While
many owners like to keep their rabbits indoors,
others opt to have their rabbits live outside in
large outdoor rabbit hutches. No matter where you
house your rabbit, it's important that he or she
have plenty of room to hop around and get
exercise. Large outdoor rabbit hutches are ideal
for rabbit owners who can't have their rabbits
indoors, but still want to own a pet rabbit.

Just like many other pets, rabbits are social
creatures and like to interact with their human
owners. So, if you do have your rabbit housed in
an outdoor enclosure, you should still be sure to
bond with your rabbit, hold your rabbit and let
your rabbit out of the hutch for supervised play
time. This will help to keep your rabbit happy
and healthy. Rabbits that are left alone for
long periods of time will often become obese,
listless and generally unhappy.

Putting your rabbit in a cage that is too small
will not allow your rabbit to move about freely,
play and graze. An ideal rabbit enclosure is one
that is large without wire flooring, which can
harm a rabbit's feet. The large rabbit hutch
should also be in an area that is safe for your
rabbit, away from wooded areas or other
dangerous spots. You should also be sensitive of
weather conditions and temperatures and opt to
bring your rabbit indoors if it is particularly
hot or cold. You can buy a large rabbit hutch
from a pet store or specialty store, or you can
make one on your own from scratch.

The benefit of having your rabbit live outside
is that you can most likely give your rabbit
more room than you would in your home. Your
rabbit hutch should be, at absolute minimum,
five times the size of your rabbit. Of course,
the bigger you can have your rabbit enclosure,
the better. Outdoor rabbit hutches are often at
least two floors with a ramp connecting the
floors. This way, you can make one floor the
feeding area with hay, one floor a play area
with toys, and the top floor a comfortable
sleeping area with bedding. It's also a good
idea to house two or more rabbits in a large
outdoor hutch so that your rabbit will be
socialized and have playmates.

Even if you have a large outdoor rabbit hutch,
it's also a good idea to have a rabbit run
constructed outside so that your rabbit can get
more exercise. A rabbit run is usually an
enclosure with wire sides and a wire floor
placed directly on the grass. The wire floor
prevents rabbits from digging during exercise
and playtime. Part of the rabbit run should also
be covered so that your rabbit can escape the sun
if it wants to. Having a rabbit run for your
bunny to exercise in will help maintain ideal
weight, and also give your rabbit something to
do other than eat and sleep.
