How Can You Effectively Prevent Dog Chewing Problems?
Are you getting frustrated with the dog chewing
problems happening in your house? Then it is
time for you to be made aware of how to
effectively stop your dog from chewing on
anything that you do not want it chewing on.
Correcting this issue is not as hard as it
seems. It just takes time, persistence and
patience from you to stop it.
It is important to understand that a dog chews
on things to help them explore things, for play
and to help them communicate with you. They do
not have any hands and cannot speak to let you
know what they want so using their mouth is a
natural reaction for them.
That doesn't mean that your dog should be
allowed to chew on anything they wish to. You
have to let them know what is appropriate for
them to chew and what is not because until you
teach them this they have no way of knowing what
you expect from them.
Just remember that a dog needs to chew on
something because it will help them relieve
anxiety and stress, plus it helps to keep their
teeth clean and strong.
So now it is your task to train them to chew
only on what you give them and nothing else. The
first thing you have to do is to make sure your
dog has his own toys to play with.
Spend some time playing with your dog so they
know that it is good for them to chew on their
toys for play and to teach them that these items
are theirs alone. Your dog will start to
associate the toys with play and fun.
When your dog picks up a belonging of yours
that you do not want chewed up, give a command
such as, drop it or no in a firm voice. You can
also clap your hands to startle them into
dropping it if they refuse to listen to the
command.
After your belonging has been dropped, give him
or her one of their toys to play with. After they
start chewing on it you want to give them praise
so they know you are happy with their behavior.
You can also give them a treat if you prefer to
for their behavior, especially if your dog is
having a difficult time learning the behavior
you want from them because the treats will let
them know that in order to get it, they have to
do what you want them to.
That is all there is to effectively stop dog
chewing problems in your beloved pet. You just
have to be consistent in the way you train them
and do it every single day until they provide
you with the exact behavior you want each time
and this will lead to a stop to chewing and a
well trained dog.
