How To Train A Dog To Stay

How to train a dog to stay is something that many
dog owners are struggling to find out how to
teach their beloved pet. This is a command that
all dogs have to learn so they can become well
behaved and it can even save their lives at
times, like if you live on a busy street where
you dog can get hit.

You need to take the time immediately to start
teaching your dog this trick because the sooner
you teach them the safer and more well behaved
your pet will be. Many people believe that it is
very hard to train a dog to stay on command, but
it is not as difficult as it seems to be.

The training just has to be done consistently
every day until they can do what you ask them to
each time you give the command. The training is
going to require time and patience from you
since a dog learns by you showing them over and
over what behavior you want them to do.

Now, to start your training with your dog you
want to make sure you do this in an area where
there are no distractions and no other people
around. That way you can keep their attention on
you where you need it for your short training
period.

Make sure you put yourself eye level with them
after you have given them the command to sit,
which is a command that they need to be taught
before you teach them to stay. After they are
sitting, utilize treats along with praise to
reward their behavior with.

It is important to be sure you use the same
command and training techniques each time you
spend with your dog on this command so they can
learn easier. Otherwise, changing the commands
and techniques can confuse them and they will
not learn what you want from them.

Now, after you are at eye level with them, hold
a treat enclosed in your hand that is held close
to your chest. Then use the other hand to give
them the signal to stay, which is usually a hand
held up with your palm facing the dog and give
them the command to stay also.

Do this for a short time period and if they
follow your command, then give them praise and a
treat to let them know that they did what you
were requesting of them. Do this process over
and over until, with longer periods of time in
between every treat.

You can also move a little way away from the
dog each time so they understand that no matter
where you go, they need to stay until you tell
them otherwise. This training will take time,
but with patience and persistence you can easily
make your dog obey this command.

Now that you are aware of how to train a dog to
stay, you need to begin training your dog right
away. The sooner they have been taught this
command the sooner they are going to be safer
and more well behaved. Plus, you can begin
teaching them other commands and know that they
can be taught to do it easily.
