Exotic Animal Classifieds Can Help You Find A Unique Pet

By Laura Gallagher

Exotic animal classifieds give consumers unique pet choices. Birds, reptiles, primates and other interesting creatures can be found through classified ads. Although these animals can be exciting and fun pets, consumers should be cautious and research their choice before making a purchase.

Reptiles have become a popular choice for many pet lovers. Boa constrictors, ball pythons, and corn snakes are popular serpents that are easy to care for. More ambitious consumers may opt for Burmese pythons, but they are not legal in all states and they can grow in excess of eighteen feet in length. Other popular reptiles include tortoises, bearded dragons and crested geckos.

Feathered exotics include parrots, finches, doves, macaws and myna birds. Many of these birds come at reasonable prices, while a few of the more intelligent and unusual breeds are quite expensive. These avian companions are not dangerous at all, but they can be noisier than people might realize, so they may not make a good choice for families with an infant or for people who are highly sensitive to loud noises.

Primates are also increasingly popular, although because they seem prone to bite, they are illegal in many areas. Squirrel monkeys, spider monkeys and capuchins are among the more popular species. Apes such as chimpanzees are probably too dangerous for untrained consumers to own. They are incredibly strong and potentially deadly as pets.

Pot belly pigs are a popular choice. They are very intelligent. They may be litter trained. Many cities do not allow them, but most rural areas do not impose any restrictions on them and they are not dangerous to humans.

exotic animal classifieds are a great source for buying out of the ordinary pets. However, before purchasing an exotic, consumers should research the animal and use common sense regarding safety and legality. Having a pet requires commitment and nothing is more damaging to the pet industry than consumers who abuse or neglect exotic animals, release them irresponsibly, or traffic in rare and endangered species.
