Just about any dog can be well behaved with these easy tips and tricks

By Jermaine Deglandon

Getting a new dog is such an exciting time in everyone's life. You literally have brought in a new member of the family. Now, it is time to train your furry friend to be an obedient, loving animal that listens to your every command. Well, most of the time. They will be very excited every time you come home and even protect you if any intruders enter your home. It is truly a blessing to own an animal, but it can be difficult to teach them how to properly behave. While trainers are amazing at their professions, they cost a lot of money to hire. If you have the funds, it is always easy to hire a trainer, but it really isn't needed. Teaching your dog by yourself is always the best option because it will create an unbreakable bond between the two of you. In fact, it is really easy if you have a little knowledge in the area. Here are some tips to get you started today.

Start the bonding process

Everyone wants to bond with their animals, but many do not know how important it is for training. When dogs pick a master, they start to listen to them and obey them more than anyone else. This is a major responsibility because, ultimately, the owner is responsible for the dog's actions. While some people find this to be hard to do, consistently being the person who feeds the animal will help greatly. They correlate this with the leader's job and will treat you as theirs. Also, always show them a lot of affection and love. This helps you become a major factor in their lives. When the master role is set, training becomes much easier.

Buy the right tools for training

While most commands can be taught with treats, there are many that will need various tools. Of course, a good collar and leash should be bought. Toys should always be present because they can be used for exercise and fun. Training crates will also be needed because they help tremendously when potty training. Once these items are obtained, the training process can be done thoroughly. It is important to note that some equipment is made for different dog sizes. Buy these items accordingly.

Show your dog guidance

Sometimes, training can be a very frustrating process. Animals just want to relax and play. You need to have a lot of patience when training your dog. If they are not behaving today, don't get mad at them. Just like they are there for you, you must be there for them. If they aren't learning a trick today, relax and keep trying. Oftentimes, they might just need a nudge in the correct direction. However, you must follow a routine and really help them establish theirs. If they have to go out, don't make them wait. If you do, they will have a much harder time becoming housebroken. Once they are trained, a bathroom routine can be set, but during training, they will have a hard time.

Let them know when they are good

The treats mentioned earlier work very well in the training process. The idea is to treat your dog's good behavior with a treat. This reinforces them that they have done something correctly. When a dog sits, give them a treat. This accompanied with praise will allow you to communicate to your animal that they have done everything correctly. This is especially true with dogs who are very timid. They need a little more praise than other pups.
