Mi-Ki Puppies Will Grow Into Affectionate Companions

By Chloe Gib

Mi-Ki puppies should be purchased from licensed Mi-Ki breeders. This is one of the newer breeds of toy dogs. The parent breeds include the Japanese Chin, Maltese and Papillon. Some Shih-Tzu blood may also be present in the pedigree.

Mi-Ki dogs are ten to eleven inches high at the shoulder and weigh from 4 to 8 pounds. The body is sturdy with a level, straight back. The ribs are well-sprung and the feet elongated and thin. Both ears should be the same in that both should be erect or both should droop. Some has shorter muzzles than others. Respiratory disorders are sometimes seen in the type with shorter muzzles. The eyes are round and large.

The Mi-Ki dog is recommended as suitable for those who suffer from allergies to dog hair and/or dander. It is low shedding and regarded as hypo-allergenic. However a trial period is advised before purchasing any new dog. The coat type may be smooth or long. Dogs with long coats have fine, silky hair along with beards and mustaches. They are feathered on the ears, legs and tail. The smooth-coat has less feathering and shorter hair on the face. The face and feet of both types are sometimes shaved to make them easier to keep clean.

The coat may be multi-colored or solid. Solid-colored dogs are quite rare and consequently more expensive. Long-coated dogs kept as pets are often kept trimmed as the coat is inclined to mat. The coats of smooth coated dogs can be allowed to grow without any problems occurring. They will only need a weekly brush. The nails should be trimmed every six weeks. The hair between the toes is inclined to attract a lot of dirt and is often shaved.

The breed is comparatively rare at the moment. Only two or three pups are born in each litter and females are often kept as breeding stock. The long coated dog is much more common than the smooth. This is because the smooth only appears due to a recessive gene.

It has an affectionate nature and is very laid-back. They do not bark much at all. The stable temperament makes them very suitable as therapy dogs. They don't need a lot of exercise.

They love kids and do well in obedience. In some ways, they are quite cat-like as they pounce on their toys and tend to wash themselves as a cat does. These adaptable dogs should be purchased from a reputable registered Mi-Ki breeder to ensure you are getting healthy Mi-Ki puppies.
