Some Basics For Aggressive Dog Training

By Bette Gay

Aggressive dog training san diego can be necessary if your pet keeps on attacking without provocation. As an owner, you can refer to books which can be a source of detailed instructions in behavioral modification. The sooner you address this problem, the safer you are and your pet.

While still young, it is important that the puppy become used to other people and other animals. Start by interacting with your pet as much as possible and making sure that he gets comfortable with constant touching. He should be exposed to other people as well so he feels secure meeting new people later on.

Misbehaving can be caused by the need to establish dominance in pack which can happen if there are other pets around. Treating the dog harshly can also lead to defensiveness and associating people with unpleasant experiences. Other times, your pet may simply be protective.

For your safety, you should know the early warning signs before an attack. The pet may stand stiffly with a raised tail and the ears flat. He may bare his teeth while staring at the object of his anger and may bark very threateningly.

Once this behavior has started, the first thing you should do is to take him to the vet. In some instances, their actions can be caused by serious medical issues. It is therefore recommended that you eliminate health concerns first before thinking of other approaches.

Make it clear to your pet that you are the leader. Show this for example by being the one he goes to for his meals or his toys. Train him to wait patiently and if he refuses to do so, take the object away and repeat after a few minutes. Be the decision maker in activities and do not engage in acts that require aggressive behavior.

Socialization is good for your pet. His behavior may be triggered by other people and other animals so in this case, letting him get used to interaction will help lessen the behavior. Express your disapproval each time he misbehaves but give him a treat if he is acting appropriately.

Positive reinforcement should be practiced in aggressive dog training san diego. These makes your pet more willing to do what you ask. Through positive conditioning, situations that he considers threatening can become more and more comfortable.
