Things You Should Know When You Are Shopping For Horse Saddles

Over the years, horse saddles have evolved into
the wide selection of saddles that we have in
stores today. If you are new to riding, and
looking to purchase a new saddle, this plethora
of choices can be a little daunting. This
article will give you a better understanding of
what basic types of saddles are out there, so
you get a good idea of which one will best suit
your needs.

Even though there are many designs and models
available, the most practical horse saddles for
a new rider can be narrowed down to three. The
general purpose saddle, Western saddle, and
Australian saddle make up these three
fundamental saddle styles.

English saddles were designed for riders who
wanted to do a little bit of everything, which
is why it is also known as "the general purpose"
saddle. This practical objective allows riders
to do the same today; they can pleasure ride,
jump, dress, cross-country, or a variety of
other riding activities by simply adjusting the
stirrups. Moreover, additional options like
knee and thigh pads are available with some
modern designs.

Western saddles came into play a little farther
down the road, when cowboys would spend long
hours on horseback and needed a saddle that was
more comfortable, stable, and maneuverable to
use while they wrangled livestock on long hauls.
Part of what stabilized them was the horn,
located on top of the pommel, which the rider
could hold onto with one hand (helping them
maintain their balance) as the other hand held
the reigns.

Australian saddles share some of both of their
predeceasing features. The saddle was
originally adapted for Australian stock handlers
from the English saddle design, to include a
deeper seat, a higher pommel that may or may not
have a horn. This gives them the maneuverability
of a Western saddle that allows the riders to
move freely and quickly as they rode long
distances, trails, or anything else that might
require adapting their seating position. Many
versions now include extra padding under the
saddle seat, and on the leg flap, to make them
more comfortable and stable. This union of
features ensures that riders get the most
secure, comfortable, and stable ride possible
even if they ride for longer periods of time.

If you also need to buy horse tack, there is a
selection of online and local stores for you to
choose from to get the riding accessories you
need to start out, or replace any item that
might have broken. Since there is such a vast
selection, take some time to see what's out
there, and then pick the store that has what you
need at the lowest price.
