Golden Retriever Puppy: How to Take Care of Them

When you bring home a golden retriever puppy you
visit your Vet and have your puppy checked over.
A Vet will perform a complete physical exam and
give your puppy the necessary vaccinations. This
will be the first step in building a bond between
you and your pet.

Golden Retriever puppies need good health, love
and training to be raised as good adult dogs.
The training should begin as soon as your pup
comes home.

Here are the 6 steps on how to take care of your
golden retriever puppies:

1. Crate and House Training. Prior to house
training, crate training should be done. Dogs
naturally like dens so giving your pup a crate
will make them feel comfortable, secured and
loved.

2. Basic Command Training. Basic behavior
training is imperative and should not be
expensive as this will just take a bit of your
time because golden retrievers are intelligent
and fast learners. Training your pup will also
give it the opportunity to socialize.
Socialization is crucial to the well being of
your pet and your family.

3. Health Care. Taking good care of your pup's
health should include a good diet. Consult your
veterinarian about the best foods to promote
good health to your pup. If you are a new pet
owner, consult the breeder and conduct research
to learn about the proper diet and other aspects
of your dogs' health.

4. Grooming. As part of being a responsible
owner, you should start training your pup to
love being bathed (schedule it once a week) and
brushed. Golden Retriever puppies have lots of
hair so brushing your puppy every day will get
it used to the handling. Brushing can also
become its favorite time when you add some
cuddling and snuggling.

5. Brushing your golden retriever's teeth is
part of grooming. There are toothbrushes
designed for dogs and toothpaste with meaty
flavors. You should start brushing your dogs
teeth early early (when they are still puppies)
to avoid cavities and gum problems.

6. Nail cutting. Cutting your pup's nails is
crucial so that it won't scratch its face or
your furniture. It is also part of grooming, so
you will want to train your pup to be used to
this. Trim their nails by using a guillotine
type cutter or a motorized sanding tool. Do not
forget the dew claws on the back of the front
legs. If neglected, they can actually grow into
the leg.

Giving proper care to your golden retriever
puppy will make your pup the best companion
adult dog. Do not forget that basic training,
establishing good diet and promoting grooming to
your pup require lots of love and care.
