Pet Sitting At The Home

By Johnny Chan

The most popular pet care service today is the home pet sitting services. An increasing number of pet care workers are ready to go all the way to their customer's place to keep the pet sitting appointment.

Not only does it make things easy for the customers, it is also easier to handle a pet in their own house. Taking them somewhere else puts them under a lot of stress and makes them difficult and obstinate. Even experts on animal behaviour recommend to pet sit at their homes for better results. Being in its own territory keeps the animal at ease.

Animals may suffer a lot of stress on a daily basis. Pets that are cared for well by their owners are always much more stress-free. The pets should be involved in playing and exercising for better physical and mental well-being.

An experienced pet sitter is capable of getting his way with most types of pets and is even able to keep them engaged happily. Keeping the pet free from any emotional stress is important to do the job successfully.

Some of the tasks that clients may expect the pet sitter to perform as a part of their services are:

1. Taking the pet to the vet's in event of it being a day for shot or vaccination. You should be ready for such situations and heed to customer's bidding.

2. Giving chew toys and treats to the pet. Customer will definitely provide such products to you and it will be expected of you to give them to the pet from time to time.

3. Keeping the pet away from areas that it is not allowed in. These might be places like the sofas, kitchen or a baby's bedroom.

4. Watering the plants! Yes, some customers may ask you to water their plants indoors and outdoors. So do not let such request take you by surprise.

5. Cleaning up after the pet. Especially in case of any 'accident' indoors, you must be equipped beforehand to be able to clean up and get rid of the waste properly. Ask your customer to leave a couple of plastic bags and cleaning equipment outside for you use in such cases.

6. Keeping the area clean. The area chalked as the place for the pet, or a cage as the case may be, must be kept clean at all times. You will be expected to do it every day if the customers leave on any trip and ask you to take care of the pet.

7. Walking as many pets as the customer owns. Since many customers rear more than one pet, and may not have sufficient number of leashes, it helps to carry your own kit that contains leashes. You may want to confirm the number of pets as well as availability of leashes with the customer before you arrive on the first day.

8. Making the pet comfortable. That is one of your prime duties. The pet must feel comfortable at home even in the absence of the owner. You must be able to observe and analyse the behaviour of the pet. It's very important to be clear about the expressions of the pet. It is important to be able to tell an angrily barking and an excitedly barking dog apart.
