African Grey Toys Will Provide Much Fun For Your Pet

By Dorothea Garner

African grey toys are a subject of much discussion. Such birds are highly intelligent animals and they need constant stimulation. Birds of this breed are curious of their world, so they learn how to keep themselves entertained by their toys easily.

It is said by some, that these birds are very shy of new toys in their cage. This may indeed be true, so it is advised that when introducing a new toy to their personal space of their cage, that you handle the toy before putting it in. The bird will then see that the toy is not going to harm you and will be a little more comfortable playing with it.

African greys love all sorts of things, and it's imperative that when choosing a new toy, that it is made of appropriate materials. It's advisable to have bird-safe rubber, high impact plastic, coconut, and steel toys for the bird to play with. Birds of this breed love to shred things too, so it's good to get a shredding toy too. However, when getting a shredding toy, be sure to keep an eye open for small bits which may come off and get stuck in the throat.

Intelligent birds such as these can become bored very easily, so it is necessary to keep them as busy and stimulated for most of their day as possible. Some of their time will be used to preen and groom themselves, but if they have a nice toy, they will play with it nonstop. Playthings for these animals can be made of high impact plastic, bird safe rubber, coconut and even steel.

Bare in mind the size of the bird. Get size appropriate items for the bird. Getting small ones for a fairly large bird makes no sense at all. All that happens is that they destroy the toy in a matter of minutes and then go back to being bored. Never purchase a toy that has sharp edges as this endangers the bird's beak and tongue.

It's also a good plan to make playthings for your parrot by using house hold items to make them. One can use a variety of materials for them to play with and it is also a nice way to keep the bird interested and busy. Parrots such as these, love to pick on a chewy hide.

Africans have very strong beaks and they can be very sharp too, pulling most of the hanging toys to pieces with ease. House hold items, such as bottle caps with the liner taken out of them, unwaxed paper cups and even wine bottle corks make for many hours of endless entertainment. Watching them enjoy themselves is also very fulfilling.

African grey toys are not very expensive and it is therefore easy to mix and match the playthings every two to three weeks. Birds such as the Africans can play for a long time, keeping themselves happy and busy. Having these birds can be advantageous for everyone, as they can teach you so much about the breed.
