Dog Grooming: Prevent Matted Fur

Prevent your dog from getting a matted fur by
checking its fur regularly. If you have observed
a tangled fur on your dog, get rid of it
instantaneously as your dog will be very uneasy
with it. By removing the matted fur right away,
you will stop your dog from pulling at the
tangle that would cause more harm to its fur.
When your dog has a tangled fur, it will be very
ugly and at the same time agonizing for your dog.

Tangled Fur Causes

Grooming deficiency. When your dog lacks
grooming, then matted fur will form. Remember to
always brush your dog's fur as they are totally
dependent on you to take care of them. You may
want to hire a pet groomer, if you don't have
time for this.

Fleas. One of the reasons of matting is flea
infection. Treat your dog for fleas regularly to
prevent a tangled fur and a sickly dog.

Shedding fur. Dogs that shed and aren't groomed
properly are prone to matting. Brush the shedding
fur from your dog - even though shedding fur is
normal, you still have to brush it out.

Remove your Dog's Tangled Fur

Prepare:

* A steel comb

* A slicker brush

* A matt splitter

Put your pet in a comfortable position. It is
recommended that you and your pet are
comfortable especially if you need more time to
de - matt.

Brush your dog's fur with steel comb. Don't
pull so hard and make sure you only brush the
grain of the fur.

Divide the matted fur. The tangled fur is
easier to remove if they are sectioned and this
will minimize the loss of fur. Use a scissor to
divide the matts and be careful that you won't
go deeper.

Use the slicker brush to remove the tangles.
Start at the end of the fur then work closely to
the skin as the matts loosen up. Starting at the
base of the fur will just compress the matted
fur tighter.

Repeat the process. If your pet has a lot of
matted fur, then repeat the process. Remember
that this will require your time and patience.

Reminders:

Keep the combs in a visible place so that you
are reminded that your pet needs grooming, to
avoid matted fur. Regularly grooming will take
less time than having to de - matt fur.

The most important thing to remember when
de-matting your pet is not to bathe your pet
when you want to remove matted fur. Matted fur
can be tighten and can also add up when wet.
