It is an essential task that we all must know about; and one of the tools that experts use in this are dog training collars.

The custom of using dog collars is a matter that many people are still on the fence about. For some, they think that dogs should remain free and unrestricted without neck belts holding them back. For others however, collars are a constructive and safe tool in educating the animal on what he needs to learn.

What are the kinds of dog collars and what does it do specifically to aid the dog? Basically, we have four kinds to choose from namely: the choke collar, the head collar, the pronged collar, and the electronic collar.

Choke collars are used for agility training, among others. These collars are simple to use-anybody can learn to use it fairly easily. Head collars is best used for managing the direction you want the dog to take; and pronged collars are for the smaller, more petite pet owners who have bigger dogs they need to control.

On the other hand, electronic collars are used by dogs that are generally deemed problematic. If used, they must never be put on a dog with health issues, or on puppies below twelve months of age. Electronic collars do not function to deliberately harm, only as training enhancement. Nevertheless, people are understandable uncomfortable with the use of these. It is wholly dependent on each pet owner and the training parameters he sets for his dog.

Other than function, an important feature you must take note of in looking for dog training collars is how comfortable it will be for the animal. You must be able to insert two fingers easily in the collar to make certain it isn't too snug for the dog. Also, take care that the collar does not stay on for more than 8 hours. Otherwise, your dog may experience skin irritation and general discomfort.
