What Details Should You Understand About The Great Dane?

The Great Dane, often called the "German
Mastiff", is a member of the working dog class.
They feature floppy ears, multiple coat colors
and a giant size. The breed is thought to have
first came to be during the 14th century. They
were originally raised for hunting wild boars or
guarding houses. They're suitable as a companion
for confident owners today. They are
identifiable by their imposing size and
appearance plus their gentle nature. They're
thought to have been developed in Germany and
are a descendant of the Mastiff, Irish Wolfhound
and Greyhound.

They are classed as a giant sized breed of dog.
The official female dimensions are over 30
inches tall and a weight of 100-135 pounds,
whereas the male guidelines are over 32 inches
high with a weight of 145-185 pounds. They're
famous for their calm and gentle personality.
The breed is usually friendly towards people
they're not familiar with, but their size can
make them somewhat suitable as a protection dog.
They are tested as being fairly clever, and ranks
equal 48th in comparison to all other breeds when
learning new obedience commands.

They're gentle towards kids, which can make them
suitable for a family pet. Other pets like other
dogs and cats they're raised with do get along
peacefully with them. Grooming them is an easy
assignment. They call for full grooming every 3
to 4 months, and small brushing once every week.
They love to have a large backyard that gives
them room to run around, but may be suited to
apartment life.

They're primarily short-lived, like a good
number of giant sized dogs, and have an expected
life of 7-10 years. Their most worrying health
risk is bloat, and they can also be susceptible
to skin allergies, heart conditions, hip
dysplasia and "Wobbler's Syndrome". Things such
as running around the park or yard will give
them great pleasure. They have a moderate degree
of energy, and that calls for moderate to long
walks each day to prevent the development of
hyperactivity or other destructive behavior.

You ought to be able to be able to cope with
their large size if you bring home the Great
Dane. They're very suitable for confident owners
or families who can handle a giant dog, but not
an ideal option for less confident owners.
Possibly the most significant reason dog owners
find this breed so attractive is it is a giant
sized dog but still has a gentle and loving
nature that makes it a great companion.
