What Details Do You Need To Understand About The Doberman Pinscher?

The Doberman Pinscher (often called the "Dobie")
is a working breed. They have a compact body,
ears that are often cropped and a short black
coat with red markings. The breed is thought to
have first originated in the late 1800s. They
were initially bred for acting as a guard dog.
They are a popular selection as a police or
military dog, therapy work, search and rescue
and companionship in the modern day. Features
such as their association with being a dangerous
dog as well as their fearless nature are what
they are characterized by. They have been
developed from the Rottweiler, Greyhound,
Beauceron and Weimaraner among other breeds and
are assumed to have been developed in Germany.

They're classed as a medium to large sized
breed. The standard female measurements are
24-26 inches tall with a weight of 60-85 pounds,
while the male measurements are 26-28 inches high
with a weight of 60-85 pounds. They are
well-known for their fearless, energetic and
alert temperament. They're generally reserved
(but aggressive if they need to protect their
family) with people they're not familiar with,
and this can make them very suitable as a
protection dog. They are confirmed to be
extremely intelligent, and ranks 5th in
comparison with every other breed when being
trained to understand new obedience
instructions.

They are great (if introduced at a young age)
with kids, and that makes them suitable as a
family pet. Other animals like other dogs as
they may get aggressive don't mix peacefully
with them. One fairly easy chore is taking care
of their coat. They need full grooming every 6
to 8 weeks, and minimal brushing of their coat
every week. They won't always be suitable for
life in an apartment, but love having a good
yard that gives them room to run around.

As is the case with the majority of medium to
large sized dogs, they are for the most part
shorter-lived with an expected life of 10-12
years. They can be vulnerable to Von
Willebrand's disease, hip dysplasia and bloat,
but their most common health concern is
"Wobbler's Syndrome". They can be entertained
with things such as agility or having a job to
do. They demand long walks each day to prevent
the threat of bad behavior due to their high
level of energy.

You must be ready to provide firm leadership and
meet their needs for exercise and mental
stimulation if you own the Doberman Pinscher.
They are not the best choice for a lot of
potential owners, but ideal for active owners or
families with plenty of time for training. This
dog can be pretty appealing for a lot of people,
and one of the biggest reasons is the fact it has
a high level of intelligence and versatility that
make it suitable for almost anything.
