What You Need To Know About Your Pet's Relocation

Whether you are migrating abroad or moving a
considerable distance within the country, you
need to know how such an event is going to
impact the non-human member or members of your
family. Very specific unfortunate circumstances
notwithstanding, pet owners generally make the
decision to take their animals along when they
move. If you are in such a predicament, there
are some things you need to be aware of about
your pet's relocation process.

Understandably, the red tape is longer and the
lists of requirements are more extensive when
you are relocating overseas. There are health
issues that need to be addressed, for starters.
For instance, you need to make sure that your
pet is up-to-date on its vaccinations,
particularly rabies. While this is not an
official requirement for domestic moves, many
airlines and shipping companies will refuse to
take on unvaccinated animals. There are
protocols in place for different scenarios. It
is then important to know which ones would apply
to your case. On occasion, quarantining for a
certain number of days upon arrival is imposed.

A health certificate issued by a veterinarian at
least a certain number of days prior to departure
is generally required and an international one,
at that, when travelling to another country. In
any case, pets entering a new country are
usually inspected at ports of entry for any
signs of infectious diseases that are
transmittable to humans. If you have an exotic
pet, then additional requirements may be further
demanded.
Of course, while paperwork is the tedious part
of the bargain, what's more important is the
safe and comfortable transport of your pet. You
need to make sure that your animal is relocated
with as little stress as possible and with very
little risk of injury. Choose an airline or
relocation company that adheres to pet-safe
policies. Sometimes the travel itinerary suffers
delays and other glitches, so it is very
important to know that there are knowledgeable
and experienced individuals who will make sure
that your pet is properly taken care of through
the entire process.

Some pet owners may be apprehensive about their
pet travelling by air, but in most cases, the
shortest possible transit is recommended, so
flying is usually the best option. Whatever
means of travel you end up choosing for your
pet, the important thing is that caring and
experienced professionals are at hand to
facilitate the physical relocation.
